  • What harm does eating on dishes and drinking from glasses that have not been washed?

i wanted to know some information about how eating and drinking from dishes harms the body....would like to tell someone i know that just rinses their dishes and utensils after being used by another person. could anyone tell me any specifics on this. it to me has gotten too far when i notced a stinch coming from a cup they had just rinsed out and started drinking from it. please help! What harm does eating on dishes and drinking from glasses that have not been washed?
Depends on the food, you can have bacteria and mold growing if you leave it for a while. A small rinse doesn't kill the bacteria efficiently. Also I doubt it will harm your body since the germs are not severe and harmless in small quantities. What harm does eating on dishes and drinking from glasses that have not been washed?
The only things I could imagine that might cause illness would be things that came in contact with raw eggs/meat/fish or things that have collected mold. If you rinse things very soon after use, then you really wont have any bacteria collecting. I think people are far too germaphobic, although when someone is sick its perfectly reasonable to be cautious.
i second poo bear. i do it all the time untill i fell like washing dishes. i usally eat the same things so i go ';o look this one already has (insert food) on it lets just add some more on it. Ive never gotten sick from doing it because i havent gotten sick in years.
thats sick. um how about not to get sick.. do you have any idea how much bacteria is growin on that. thats like putting new food on rotten food and eating it. if i were you woundnt even be friends with that sick dude.... or maybe never eat there or bring your own stuff. no telling what else they are half assing. they skip showers too? jimity freaking cricket.........
If it's just veggies, a plate from yesterday probably wouldn't hurt you. However, ecoli bacteria can grow on food scraps of meat and make you sick.

Can it be washed off from my glasses?

OK my glasses broke right? and well i superglue them back together but i got a little glue onto the frames and well like i heard, acetone help remove super glue and so i grabbed some nail polish and washed off the super glue off my frames. and now im stuck with another problem! my frames are turning kinda white. looks like the acetone had some sort of affect on the paint of the glasses.

BUT WHENEVER I WASH IT WITH WATER, THE WHITE GOES AWAY. but when the dries up, the white returns. what can i do to remove this whitish effect on my glasses? Can it be washed off from my glasses?
well water is wat binds super glue...right? stop using water, that's not gonna help you. I'd use nail polish remover or rubbing alcohol... not so sure about the white effect though, sorry good luck tho

Do logos on glasses last longer when washed by hand or in dishwasher?

I have a large glass collection with various logos, and would like the logos to last as long as possible, while still using the glasses for their intended purpose. This includes shot glasses. I have glassware from many different years, but most are probably after 1980 or so.

Is there a significant difference between washing by hand and washing in the dishwasher? Given the number of glasses I have, it's not as if I'm using the same glasses weekly, so that should increase the average life.

I've tried finding the answer among collectors, but nothing comes up online.Do logos on glasses last longer when washed by hand or in dishwasher?
I have shot glasses from the 1940s with silk screened designs, and those things have lasted and lasted through multiple times through the dishwasher. However, a set of glasses I picked up in the 1980s have faded to where the image can no longer be seen. I think a lot depends on the process used to put the designs on the glasses and how well they were fired on.

Your safest best to wash all your beer %26amp; shot glasses by hand, and let them air dry. What damage that is caused by running glasses through the dishwasher is usually tied into the extreme heat generated in the wash which can lead to fading AND the abrasiveness of the dishwasher detergent which can cause glassware to become cloudy over time.

Of course, hand washing makes your collection of glasses more prone to breakage, which is why you should always use a rubber sink mat inside the sink when washing glassware.

A bartender was washing his glasses, when an elderly Irishman came in. With great difficulty, the Irishman?

    hoisted his bad leg over the barstool, and asked for a sip of whiskey. The Irishman looked towards the end of the bar and said, ';Is that Jesus down there?';

The bartender nodded, so the Irishman told him to give Jesus an whiskey, too. The next patron to come in was an Italian with a hunched back. He shuffled up to the barstool and asked for a glass of Chianti. He also looked down the bar and asked if that was Jesus sitting at the end of the bar. The bartender nodded, so the Italian said to give Him a glass of Chianti, too.

The third patron to enter the bar was a Scouser, who swaggered into the bar and yelled, ';Barkeeper, gis us a lager! Hey, is dat God's Boy down dere?'; The barkeeper nodded, so the Scouser told him to give Jesus a lager, too.

As Jesus got up to leave, he walked over to the Irishmanfelt the strength comeback to his leg, so he got up and danced a jig out the door.

Jesus went up and touched the Italian and said, ';For your kindness, you are healed!'; The Italian felt his back straighten, so he raised his hands above his head and did a flip out the door.

Jesus then walked towards the Scouser, but the Scouser jumped back and exclaimed, ';Don't f*ckin touch me! I'm on disability!';A bartender was washing his glasses, when an elderly Irishman came in. With great difficulty, the Irishman?

I just tried it, IT WORKS! Report Abuse
How can i separate two glasses that are stuck together? dish washing soap is not working -?
Run them under warm water. It should cause a change, enough to loosen them.
put ice or very cold water in top one

dunk bottom of bottom one in hot water while the ice or ice water is in top one

    the cold shrinks the glass

    the heat expands the glass

so they should then come apart
put them in the freezer and when they get colder maybe they will get a bit smaller.
Try steam. As in sauna, clothing steamer or a hot bath. This will produce moisture and humidity..
Simple go outside step back and throw them as hard as you can at your house. bam there seperated!
    break them
temperature change. take them from hot to cold .
Put cold water in the inside glass and put both glasses in a bowl filled with hot water. The inside glass will contract and the outside glass will expand, allowing you to separate the glasses.
First of all they should not have been placed that way. To solve this, use soap with luke-warm water. Shake, rinse, repeat.
I always tell my physics class to put ice in the top one (to contract it) and run hot water on the bottom one (to expand it). I've never had glasses stuck together to experiment on, though. If this works, let me know!
    a hammer otta do it.
soak them in slightly hot water for a few min. they will come out easily. I have tried it. It works.

Bacon, Sausage, Egg, Bubble, Black Pudding, Mushrooms, Haggis and Beans. Only washed down with beer if I've a stinking hangover, otherwise a nice cup of tea!! The black pudding has to be crisp on the outside and soft in the middle.
fresh salad definately..not sure on the carrot juice tho :(

Neither, its tapas and a good bottle of red wine

My drinking glasses have a foggy, cloudy, white thing on them, and it can't be washed off with the dishwasher.

What should I do to remove the white stuff? It only happens on the drinking glasses, that are glass and have been in the dishwasher many times. Is there a way I can get it off? Water and soap or whatever doesn't work.My drinking glasses have a foggy, cloudy, white thing on them, and it can't be washed off with the dishwasher.
Good luck, your glasess have been etched, typical for a dishwasher, I learned this the hard way, better off to wash glasses by hand.My drinking glasses have a foggy, cloudy, white thing on them, and it can't be washed off with the dishwasher.
Rinsing them with vinegar usually removes the filmy build up on drinking glasses.
Get something that removes calcium and lime deposits. CLR is pretty good stuff.

Drinking glasses that continue to get a haze on them after being washed.?

We have some drinking glasses imported from Italy that no mater what type of dish soap is used or hand washed or dish washer washed they continue to get a haze on them. None of our other glasses in the same cuppard do this. What is causing it and how can we stop it?Drinking glasses that continue to get a haze on them after being washed.?
Palmolive just came out with a new dishwasher liquid that has vinegar in it, it works great. (Purple bottle) If you're washing by hand, just add a little vinegar to the water. Works great!!!Drinking glasses that continue to get a haze on them after being washed.?
Ooo,might be something they're coated with.I don't know if I would drink out of them with the haze or not. However,if you put some vinegar in your dish water,it should remove the haze.I would add about half a cup and see what that does.DO NOT put vinegar in the water with anything that has a pattern,or anything.Make sure everything is plain.I used to do that because it helps get dishes cleaner, and it ate the picture off of one of my glasses.
Try checking out www.Care2.com They have a lot of good cleaning tips, etc.
Add vinegar to liquid dish detergent
Are they frosted glasses? It's possible that they are supposed to have a frosting on them. I don't what the specific term is, but for example we have a decorative mirror panel in our bathroom -- when I clean it, it looks like a normal shiny mirror, and then it hazes over to give it a matte finish.
Try rinsing in vinegar and then in water.

Our washing machine leaves a soapy film on the glasses why?

can anyone tell me why and how to fix it.Our washing machine leaves a soapy film on the glasses why?
    You mean a DISH washer?

    1) Try vinegar with each wash

    2) Change your soap

    3) Run the dishes through a rinse cycle twiceOur washing machine leaves a soapy film on the glasses why?
How do they not break in the spin cycle?
Maybe you're using too much soap. Run the machine through a couple of cycles with nothing in it to clear it out and then use less soap. Use Cascade Complete. It has a rinse aid in it.
Have you tried to get some jet dry. It is a rinsing agent.

Or even buy a new dish washing soap. Try them to things.
When this happens to me, about once a month, I throw a handfull of salt in on the next wash and this sorts it out !
Add a rinse agent such as Jet Dry.
try putting the min a dishwasher instead ofa washing machine
Do you use salt? If not, try using some if you are using it already, try reducing the amount. It's something to do with how soft your water is.
It might need a good cleaning, Take a 1/2 gallon of white vinegar and pour it in the dish washer and let it go through the cycle, this will remove the residue that builds up through the year. This should be done at least twice a year.
    Try using the dishwasher.....

  • How do I keep my crystal drinking glasses from getting a film on them when washing them in the dishwasher.?

I own some Crystal d'Arques drinking glasses which I wash in the dishwasher. I do this because washing them by hand would discourage me from using them and enjoying them every day. When I wash them I put them on the top rack, use softened hot water, Jet Dry Rinse Agent, and Cascade Complete. I seem to be getting a film on them which looks like oil but does not feel oily. Is there anything I can do to prevent or fix this? How do I keep my crystal drinking glasses from getting a film on them when washing them in the dishwasher.?
My experience over the years has been that there are some items that just shouldn't be put in a dishwasher -- and glassware is one of them. Over a period of time, the dishwasher will permanently ';etch'; your glasses and ruin them ... and once that's done there's no turning-back ... it's permanent. So my personal rule-of-thumb is that, when it's just my husband and me, I hand-wash my glassware and set it in a dish-drainer to air-dry. But -- if we're having a party and there are ';hundreds'; of glasses to be washed -- then I do use the dishwasher -- because just occasional washing in a dishwasher won't hurt your glassware. I know that's probably not the answer you want to hear, but I have found it to be true. There's just some stuff that I don't put in a dishwasher ...How do I keep my crystal drinking glasses from getting a film on them when washing them in the dishwasher.?
I had a similar problem months ago after we had a huge reception. All the glasses came out with a white sort of film all over as if the rinse cycle hadn't worked, so since then when we have dinner parties, I wash them by hand in Morning Fresh Antibacterial with natural extracts being tea tree and orange. I use only straight hot water for washing and straight hot water for rinsing and the heat of the hot water dries them on the dish rack. Haven't had the same problem since. Hope this is helpful and works for you if you want to give it a shot. Best of luck!
I don't have a dishwasher. However, I add vinegar to my dish water, and the dishes have less water stains on them, even after rinsing them with tap water that has a high calcium and mineral content. So, if you can figure out a way to add vinegar to the dishwasher, it may help.
First wash them by hand in soapy water and just a splash of ammonia. Ammonia makes crystal sparkle! Then start washing them with regular Cascade granules in the dishwasher - not the liquid formula. They should be fine.
hi.. try using plain vinegar for the rinse agent. it has always worked for me.
Just don't use them, they are too good to be used

Why do my glasses have a horrible floury smell after being washed in the dishwasher?

It doesn't affect the plates or dishes, just the glasses. Its a similar smell to wallpaper paste???

what can i do?Why do my glasses have a horrible floury smell after being washed in the dishwasher?
it could be the water if you are on a well this will happen or if you leave the glasses in the washer overnight they will absorb the steam smell or change soap and use a bit of vinegar in the washer and run it on empty with some bleach from time to time to deodorize , check the bottom perhaps you got some food that went bad and is just resting there waiting for you to remove it .Why do my glasses have a horrible floury smell after being washed in the dishwasher?
Maybe this composition of glass is not meant to be dish washed by a machine that uses really really hot water.

Try placing it on a lower rack for cooler water. Or just starting hand washing them.
    Try changing detergent?

Why are glasses after washing in a dishwasher are left with a white stain on them

Make sure all of your filters are cleaned and clear, but most of all as suggested you need to use a rinse aid and a simple one is to use some white vinegar as it will help get rid of the mineral deposits or white stuff on your glasses, this should leave them nice and shiny

Why are glasses after washing in a dishwasher are left with a white stain on them
As others have said, you probably have hard water. Pour some white vinegar into the rinse aid dispenser- it works as a great rinse aid because it breaks down the minerals that cause the white stains. It leaves a great shine on the dishes.

If you don't have a rinse aid dispenser, you can add 1 tsp. borax into the detergent compartment along with your soap. It is a great water softener. Why are glasses after washing in a dishwasher are left with a white stain on them
One more thing is your water temperature. If your machine has a preheat setting see if it makes a difference. We have noticed that some dishwashing detergents - notably the solids, will leave a residue if the water temperature is too low.
Because you have 'hard' water, with a high mineral content. Most dishwashers have a place in the door where you can add a 'rinse aid' that'll help the water sheet off the glasses.

What is more environmentally friendly? Disposable cups or washing glasses in detergent producing waste water?

Washing glasses in detergent is far more environmentally friendly than buying disposable cups for ever time you want a drink.

Most disposible cups are made from either polystyrene or plastics so their production is far more damaging to the environment than glass production. Also they take longer to break down so will be hanging around for much longer than galss will which can be re-cycled.

Although you would be producing waste water by washing the glasses, the water will be recycled too as is will be treated and put back into the water system. Make sure that the detergent you use is environmentally friendly if you can (Ecover is a good one) but as long as you don't use too much of it then it is a far better way to go.What is more environmentally friendly? Disposable cups or washing glasses in detergent producing waste water?
Water is recycled by every county and does not disappear.

Synthetic cups/products may remain in landifills for ever, aside from the fact they are made from and consume our resources such as oil by-products.What is more environmentally friendly? Disposable cups or washing glasses in detergent producing waste water?
what's the disposable cup made of? recycleable paper or plastic? Go for recycleable paper cups.
Washing glasses, As this will not be filling any land fill sites up. And as most water treatment plants treat the water well enough that it is clean enough to drink whats the problem. If you were given a glass of water that had been treated and not told so you would not be able to tell the difference.
depends on the detergent. if its bio-degradable soap, then washing dishes is better because the soap turns into fertilizer and the grey water can be used to water the plants.
Disposable, biodegradable cups would be neat.(^_^)

    Or use a eco-friendly detergent.(^_^)

But personally, I vie for the cool cups.(^_^)
You could use disposable cups then recycle them.

How can I get my dishes and glasses to not smell after washing them in the dishwasher?

Change brands of dishwasher detergent. How can I get my dishes and glasses to not smell after washing them in the dishwasher?
first you need to make sure the washer is working properly. are any drains clogged? is something stuck at the bottom that is rotting? a hose kinked. then you need to check your water temp on the water . Perhaps its not set high enough. the water need to be at least 150 degrees. check the manufactures recommended temp. Do you have well water ? that might me a problem too. how old is the unit. I use jet dry in mine to help with water drops. I use electrasol tabs to wash. I have used cascade too. Cascade make a additive you can use with the soap that help for red stains and also smells. i use it when i am wash dishes from spaghetti ,chili etc. I also run my dish washer once a month empty with a cleaner. I cant remember the name but it is sold right next to the dishwasher soaps.

I had a problem once where the little plastic piece underneath the bottom spray arm had a hole in it. It was spraying ground up food all over the dishes. it looked like sand. It was gross. and very unhealthy. you may want to check that too.

If the unit is old Id replace it if you rule out everything else. How can I get my dishes and glasses to not smell after washing them in the dishwasher?
If you are not using a scented detergent, which is what I think you are referring to, just add a tee spoon of clear vinegar with your detergent. That will do nicely!
I have a KitchenAid dishwasher that gets smelly -- no food in the filter. It gets a band of crud built up right where the door connects to the body of the machine. I have to clean it once a week. I use a sponge and some dishwasher detergent.

Sometimes it still has a slight odor, which goes away if I run another cycle, including detergent.

I own two of these dishwashers in two different houses, and they both have the same problem.
it could be the type of detergent you use that make your dishes to smell. try using a different detergent
I've had a dishwasher for years and never had that problem. There might be food in the filter. Clean it out and run it through a cycle empty dumping a box of baking soda in the bottom.
    Baking soda
    What do they smell like?

Did you have fish the night before? Or is it a mildew-y, musty odor?

Either one calls for a good cleaning of your dishwasher and the rubber gaskets sealing around the door. Use baking soda, hot water and a bit of white vinegar. Check around the water pump inside the bottom for food and debris and clean it with a bottle brush or toothbrush.

Next, run an empty load with the hottest water and setting you have, and put 1/2 cup of baking soda in both soap cups.
Try putting some vinegar in and wash it out imean the dish washer
try taking them out as soon as the cycle is finished, if that still doesnt work you may have som food residue left in the filter of the dish washer, see if you cant run a cycle with a special ';dish washer'; cleaner. good luck

Glasses come very dirty when washed im my dishwasher?

Everything on the bottem is sparkling clean, but the glasses come out looking like the plates did when i started the dishwasher. its like everything came off the plates and stuck on the glasses. The rinse is full so its not that. Glasses come very dirty when washed im my dishwasher?
I agree with Ralph Z on his point, but there are other reasons too. Check and make sure the holes in the upper spray are, if there is one, are not plugged. Mine where last week and I just took everything apart and picked the stuff out with a toothpick. The other thing is your pump might have gone bad. That is what happened to my first dishwasher. It was cheaper to by a new unit than a pump for the old. Hope this helps.

Best of Luck 2U.Glasses come very dirty when washed im my dishwasher?
    I've stated this before.

On some dishwashers, GE mostly, there is no top spray arm and the bottom spray arm telescopes upward to spray top tray items.

There is a round spot on the lower tray that the arm has to rise in and if there are any dishes, pans or anything blocking that space then the spray tube cannot rise to do the top tray.

Check this out as it may be the cause and it was the cause on my dishwasher.
I don't know if this matters a lot or not but I always run the garbage disposal before running the dishwasher. I think that was stated in the user's manual.
you can spend money on spot free wince agent or just add a half cup of vinegar to each wash .

  • Should Prescription Eye Glasses Be Washed Daily Over The Sink?

That's a great thing to do. Perspiration and facial oils will build up if you never clean your glasses, and that can cause discoloration on the nosepads and even some metals. Rinsing is the best way to clean your lenses, and you should dry them with a clean microfiber or cotton cloth. If they're a bit gunky in the crevices, use a soft toothbrush and a mild dish soap to gently scrub them.Should Prescription Eye Glasses Be Washed Daily Over The Sink?

Why is there always a film left on glass that's washed in the dishwasher?

i noticed that after awhile, there is a gross film left on glasses that have been washed in dishwashers. what can you do to prevent that from happening? my water glasses are still in great condition but i think i'm going to have to buy new ones now b/c the film is getting so gross looking (like there's milk residue left on).

i tried handwashing and i still can't get the film off.

Why is there always a film left on glass that's washed in the dishwasher?
it isn't a film. the glasses are clean, it's just that the dish washing detergent has etched the glass (tiny scratches). there are detergents that claim to be safe with no etching, but if it has already happened, you can't fix it nowWhy is there always a film left on glass that's washed in the dishwasher?
Is your dishwasher older? I know when I had an older dishwasher that happend, so I would say you may need a new one. Or buy Jet Dry, that stuff works awesome, it makes dishes look sparkling! Otherwise, I would just say wash the expensive fragile stuff by hand and don't put it in the dishwasher.
    Was it doing it before?

If this is your first dishwasher, it could be your water.

Try adding vinegar to your dishwasher. I did this to get clear glasses before we put in a water softener and purifier.
It's NOT a film on the glasses...It's your glasses being etched from the chemical in the dishwasher soap...try a good rinse additive in the rinse cycle
Use Jet Dri rinse agent in your dishwasher. It works great!

What are the liquids used by bartenders for dip washing their bar glasses?

Take a closer look and you will see that there are three sinks, three steps in washing glassware. They are 1)Wash 2) Rinse 3) Sanitize. The first sink has hot water and some sort of soap or detergent, the second sink has hot clean water, and the third sink has a room temperature sanitizing solution. Sometimes bleach is used, but now more common is a quaternary sanitizer, or Quat solution for short. What are the liquids used by bartenders for dip washing their bar glasses?

no sudds detergent and water in sink number one. Water in sink numero two. Water and bleach in sink three. (fifty parts per million of bleach)

Did you see that news story about hotels not washing the glasses in the rooms?

Some major hotels showed some mexican housekeepers just cleaning the glasses with some water and putting them back for the next person.

and another one was spraying them with window cleaner and then drying it off.

I'll never use those glasses againDid you see that news story about hotels not washing the glasses in the rooms?
that's the way it is , uhgggggggggg, who uses them any way , but thanks for sharing, i never use them and now i won'tDid you see that news story about hotels not washing the glasses in the rooms?
That doesn't surprise me at all. You'd be surprised at what happens in hotel rooms and what doesn't get cleaned up. In my days as a housekeeper, I heard of a gruesome murder that took place in a local motel and instead of calling in a professional cleaning service or hazmat, they had a housekeeper clean it up. That housekeeper later became my boss at another motel.
20-20 went in motel and Hotel rooms with black lights. They found sperm on the phone the walls, carpets, the door knobs, bath tubs, room keys. And on the ceiling. Sperm on the ceiling? That's a party I'm glad I missed.
Yes! Wasn't that awful? It really makes me think when I go into a hotel room. I will take my own glasses, soap, toilet paper, and LYSOL SPRAY!!! HA!

My glasses washed in my automatic dishwasher smell?

How can I stop my glasses from smellingMy glasses washed in my automatic dishwasher smell?
You may need to clean out the area down below the floor of the dishwasher. Gunk accumulates down there and makes the water nasty. You can also add 1 cup of white vinegar to ';sweeten'; the water at the beginning of a wash cycle. My glasses washed in my automatic dishwasher smell?
Run a cycle of 1/4 cup of bleach in your dishwasher. Do it while empty. Wait until the bottom fills with water, open door, add bleach. Let it run its course. After done you may want to run another cycle if it still smells like bleach.
You probably need your chopper screen cleaned .Find the inst booklet and it will tell you how to do that. Its really quit easy if you have a screw driver. It chops the food that's left on your dishes so it goes down the drain easily.
Do you have well water or city water? If you have well water the smell could be caused from iron or other minerals in the water.
If you are having problems with your glasses smelling or not coming out clean then this information may be helpful for you. http://tclaundryrepair.com/dishwasher

What is the best way of washing non-dishwasher safe glasses?

Wine glasses with emblems on them get washed off. Beer glasses seem to lose their ability to keep a head after going in a dishwasher. What is the best way of washing non-dishwasher safe glasses?
Fill your sink with hot water and Dawn. Wash away and rinse good. Hand dry.

flowerWhat is the best way of washing non-dishwasher safe glasses?
    Wash them by hand.

Your kitchen includes a device known as a ';Sink.'; You can go to the store and buy stuff called ';Soap.'; Put the soap in the sink, then look for a knob labled ';H'; on the sink. Turn that, and water will be poured into the sink from a nozzle. Stir the water to get soap suds, and put the glasses in the water. Get a clean rag, and wipe the dishes inside and out. Then you can rinse the soap off of the glasses, and let them dry.
    Okay to keep the design

don't put them through the dishwasher

For glasses like these they should be washed by hand

Rinse with hot to warm water to get the soapy residue out
it's called wash them with your hands and a sponge. here's what you do. first rinse out the glass. next wet the sponge. then put some soap on the sponge. last wip all the crud out of the glass. then rinse the soap out and you done
You should run warm water in your kitchen sink and add dish soap. Let them soak in there for a bit and then gently wash them with a washcloth. Then I would probably hand dry them with a cloth kitchen towel. Just to prevent water spots.
Beer glasses should never be washed with any kind of detergent. The residue is what stops the head. Plain hot water.

With the wine glasses, either they're cheap, or the water temp. is too high.
Get the wife to do them lol

    Found this http://www.goodhousekeeping.com/home/hel鈥?/a>
Wash both with warm water only (not hot) with a mild detergent. And, if you're really overly zealous, hand dry with a soft towel. But, a drying rack will probably do. :)
I put them in the dishwasher on gentle cycle, no drying at the end. They come out fine. If you're too afraid just hand wash them
Wash them gently yourself with mild detergent.
By hand, with dish detergent and a cloth or sponge, rinse well.
I wash them in hot water and mild soap, and rinse them in hot water and let them stand dry.

    take care

  • Washing a glass that is not dishwasher safe?

I just noticed tonight that a glass I was drinking from said to wash by hand, not to use the dishwasher. That freaks me out alittle. cuz Ive been washing it in the dishwasher for months now, and I never noticed that label. Does it make that glass unsafe to be drinking from, or what is the reason for it having to be hand washed. Im just really worried now, and Im scared to drink from it. Im probably being silly, but Im worried that maybe Im injesting some toxins from it or something. Any advice? and is it ok to still keep the glass, or should I throw it away. No rude comments please, I know its probably a stupid question. Thanks.Washing a glass that is not dishwasher safe?
Is it an insulated cup? They don't do as well in the dishwasher. I'm sure you have NOTHING to worry about! There may be a trim that could wear off easier in the d/w.Washing a glass that is not dishwasher safe?
Awe,no it's not a stupid question! I think it is just delicate and can easily break.

I have some lead crystal glasses that have been washed in a dish washer and have a milky hard scum on them?

I think this is known as blooming or something similar. Is there any way of restoring these glasses to their former state or are they destined to be recycled?I have some lead crystal glasses that have been washed in a dish washer and have a milky hard scum on them?
A couple of things you can try; first soak them in white vinegar. Take a soft bristle brush to get into the grooves, cuts in the pattern if you need to.

I have also heard that denture cleaning tablets work but I always use the white vinegar 'cause I have it and it's cheap!

After this, try to keep them out of the dishwasher; it's just plain not good for lead crystal on a regular basis. If you must, use the ';delicate'; setting, sometimes called china/crystal.I have some lead crystal glasses that have been washed in a dish washer and have a milky hard scum on them?
Try soaking them in vinegar. That may remove the deposits. Next time you wash them, cut back on the amount of detergent you use and you should be ok. Hope this helps.
Never put good stuff in the dishwasher!! Try either soaking them in hot water and soda crystals for a while then buff and polish them, or maybe t cut could restore the finish.
that is because you live in a hard water area,

always wash crystal by hand, and dry with a tea towel .straightaway.
You have wrecked them, unfortunately. Never put crystal in a dishwasher (or aluminium).

Why do things look kind of washed out with glasses on?

I'm farsighted and can't really see squat without glasses or contacts, but I feel like with them on, there's a certain crispness that's missing from my vision....kind of hard to explain. Why do things look kind of washed out with glasses on?
i dunno but i love your mr patato headWhy do things look kind of washed out with glasses on?
because ur not suppost to wear them. only certain ppl are
you may need a stronger prescription

    or like me need bifocals

i am ';severely farsighted'; according to my doc..

go get your eyes checked again

time for a new pair my dear
    Your lenses are probably dirty.
Your lenses might be dirty or scratched, but since you say you have the same problem with contacts, you probably need a stronger Rx. A lot of people, especially those who wear a higher Rx (myself included) are reluctant to get stronger glasses so they say the chart looks sharp even when it doesn't quite. You probably just need a few more diopters. If you got your eyes checked recently go back to the doctor and ask her to readjust your prescription, if it's been a while get them checked again. Wearing glasses can be like shopping for clothes, sometimes we get stuff that doesn't quite fit just so we can have a smaller size on the label.
Maybe you should wash your lenses?

Really, scratches on lens surface will 'cloud' your vision.
lol i need glasses cuz i cant see clearly gaving glasses suck
The same thing happens to me. your vision will always be a bit distorted with glasses on (try getting them made out a different material if it really bugs you), but if you can get them, contacts won't distort your vision at all.
you have the wrong perscription then... you should be able to see crisp and clear with glasses.

    Washing out a glass pipe?

I have a glass pipe, and my friends nephew filled it up with hand sanitizer. I rinsed it out like 50 times, but you can still taste it. What can i use to get rid of the hand sanitizer taste? Yes this pipe is for smoking marijuana and i don't want anyone telling me it's bad. Ive gotten that lecture lots thanks.Washing out a glass pipe?
make a solution out of baking soda and water. Soak your pipe in it, then use a pipe cleaner or hand made tool to ';scrub'; the areas you can reach. Baking soda is non toxic and is made to absorb odors.Washing out a glass pipe?
try soaking the pipe in alcohol. Everclear works great and doesn't leave any aftertaste
put it in the dishwasher or soak with vinegar and water in a dish
soak in dish soap. then wash it

  • If i drink 10-12 glasses of water aday, would it wash away the vitamins from my body?

there is NOTHING you can do to WASH away vitamins in your body. Drinking this much water if fantastic for you. I drink a gallon of water per day myselfIf i drink 10-12 glasses of water aday, would it wash away the vitamins from my body?
Beware from dying of hyponatremia ( water intoxication) in the summer-read this frreinds You need sodium and potassium as well and TOO much plain water in the hot weather can kill You,so drink orange juice for potassium and put salt on Your food in hot weather try drinking 8 glasses of water 12 might be too much if Your salt intake is inadequate. If you feel light headed or weak eat fruit for potassium and salt for sodium.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyponatremi鈥?/a>

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hypernatrem鈥?/a> = THE OPPOSITE

    Exercise-associated hyponatremia

Almond et al.[1] found hyponatremia in as many as 13% of runners in a recent Boston Marathon, with life-threatening hyponatremia (serum Na below 120 mmol/L) in 0.6%. The runners at greatest risk of serious water intoxication had moderate weight gain during the race due to excessive water consumption.

Exercise associated hyponatremia (EAH) is predominantly the occurrence of dilutional hyponatremia during or up to 24 hours after prolonged physical activity, caused by an increase in total body water relative to the amount of total body exchangeable sodium. This means consumption of fluids in excess of total body fluid losses and/or impaired renal water clearance: maximal urinary excretory rate is about 1 L/h in normal adults under resting conditions.

Inappropriate secretion of the hormone arginine vasopressin/antidiuretic hormone (AVP/ADH), is also a contributory factor to the development of EAH. This excess hormone secretion prevents the kidneys from excreting the excess water in the urine. The primary means of avoiding EAH is to avoid excess fluid retention (weight gain during or after exercise). This can be accomplished by drinking only according to thirst and monitoring body weight before and during exercise - it is best to lose around two percent of body weight and never gain weight during exercise.

Ingestion of electrolyte-containing sports drinks cannot prevent the development of EAH in athletes who drink to excess.[2][3]

    Notable cases

Craig Barrett, a New Zealand athlete, collapsed during a 50 km walk, probably due to water intoxication.

Matthew Carrington, a student at California State University in Chico, California, died of hyponatremia in February 2005 during a fraternity hazing ritual.[8]

James McBride, a police officer with the Metropolitan Police Department of the District of Columbia, died of hyponatremia on August 10, 2005. Officer McBride had been participating in a strenuous bicycle patrol training course. During a 12-mile (19 km) training ride on the second day of the course, Officer McBride drank as much as three gallons (11 liters) of water.[9]

Leah Betts[10] died on the 16th of November 1995 after taking an ecstasy tablet at her 18th birthday party and subsequently drinking too much water; the case received mass media coverage throughout the United Kingdom, which focused on the dangers of ecstasy.

Cynthia Lucero, who collapsed between miles 19 and 20 of the Boston Marathon in 2002 was the second person ever to die in the history of the race.

In January 2007 Jennifer Strange, a woman in Sacramento, California, died following a water-drinking contest sponsored by a local radio station, Sacramento-based KDND-FM.[11] The contest was called ';Hold your wee for a Wii';.

After completing the 2007 London Marathon, 22-year-old David Rogers collapsed and later died as a result of hyponatremia.[12]

Professional Wrestler Michelle McCool was hospitalized for 16 days in 2006 because of hyponatremia.[citation needed]

Hypervolemic hyponatremia. In hypervolemic hyponatremia, excess water 鈥?commonly the result of kidney failure, heart failure or liver failure 鈥?dilutes the sodium concentration, causing low sodium levels.

Euvolemic hyponatremia. Normal water levels combined with low sodium levels (commonly due to chronic health conditions, cancer or certain medications) can lead to euvolemic hyponatremia.

Hypovolemic hyponatremia. In hypovolemic hyponatremia, your water and sodium levels are both low. This may occur, for example, when exercising in the heat without replenishing your fluids or with marked blood loss.

    Hyponatremia causes may include:

Consuming excessive water during exercise. Because you lose sodium through sweat, drinking too much water during endurance activities, such as marathons and triathlons, can dilute the sodium content of your blood. If i drink 10-12 glasses of water aday, would it wash away the vitamins from my body?
Yes. Too much water will wash away minerals and vitamins from your body. It washes away such soluble vitamins such as Vitamin b and c. Now the average cups of water a person drinks depends on the person obviously (such as weight and height, etc.) For me, 10-12 glasses is normal for me because i'm 6'3 and about 250. So my body obviously needs more water to maintain my whole body. But the common male at 5'11 at about 180-200 will only need about 8 glasses.

If you need more info just email me.
    Well, yes and no.

No, 10-12 glasses won't wash your vitimins away.

Yes, drinking way too much water will wash your vitimins away.

So basically, 10-12 should be fine, (as long as you're average size) but I wouldn't drink any more than that.
No it gets absorbed into the body

How do you get rid of streak marks on glasses from a washing machine and how do you prevent them re-occuring?

I put salt and rinse aid in the washing machine. Actually, I use those 3-in-1 tablets. How do you get rid of streak marks on glasses from a washing machine and how do you prevent them re-occuring?
there is a product around here ( TX ) called ';Lemishine'; You can find it at Wal-Mart. It works GREAT. Just add a little to each load and you wont have any more streaks! How do you get rid of streak marks on glasses from a washing machine and how do you prevent them re-occuring?
Just wash and rinse them by hand. Dish washers scratch the life out of glasses and it only takes a minute to wash them by hand in fairly hot water. Just leave them to drip dry otherwise they get covered in oose of the tea towel.
Save the planet. Get rid of your dishwasher.
It occurred to me that if you're using a 3-in-1 tablet, plus adding salt and rinse aid to your dishwasher, that you might be undermining the benefits in the all-in-one tablet, which also contains those ingredients. I'd certainly think that two applications of the rinse agent, one in the tablet and another from your dispenser, is slight overkill and it might be causing the streaking problem. My suggestion would be to empty out the salt and rinse dispenser, and just use your 3-in-1 tablet.
You may want to turn up your hot water heater a little and then make sure you are drying them with heat, not air.
Think you mean dish washer , try the glass cycle..
glass and silverware (all cutlery really) should be washed in warm soapy water and polished up with a glass cloth (dont rinse) this will make them sparkle the salt in a dishwasher acts as an abrasive and this is what is causing the streaks and also small scratches if you look close enough
You should never put glasses in a dishwasher unless you have a specific glass programme.... Once marked they cannot be put right.
Try using a dishwasher, washing machines are designed to wash clothes :)

Look in your handbook and there will be a section on adjusting the levels of salt and rinse aid, you may have to reduce it slightly, one notch at a time.

Why are there watermarks on my cutlery and glasses after washing them in dishwasher?

Simply said; you have hard water and should use either a dishwasher rinse aid that is put into a rinse dispenser in the dishwasher, or simply use White Vinegar in the dispenser instead, this will keep the hard water from forming on your cutlery and glasses they will also come out sparkling, not only that vinegar is inexpensive to use and should last you longer than store bought dishwasher rinse aids. Good Luck !Why are there watermarks on my cutlery and glasses after washing them in dishwasher?
Your Welcome, and thanks for choosing me as best answer Report Abuse
Why are there watermarks on my cutlery and glasses after washing them in dishwasher?
I don't know about vinegar, but cutlery shouldn't go in the dishwasher.
Hard water is the reason - use Jet Dry. You may have a dispenser on the dishwasher door. If not, Jet Dry is also available in a ';basket'; that you hang from the top dishwasher shelf.
