Why is there always a film left on glass that's washed in the dishwasher?

i noticed that after awhile, there is a gross film left on glasses that have been washed in dishwashers. what can you do to prevent that from happening? my water glasses are still in great condition but i think i'm going to have to buy new ones now b/c the film is getting so gross looking (like there's milk residue left on).

i tried handwashing and i still can't get the film off.

it isn't a film. the glasses are clean, it's just that the dish washing detergent has etched the glass (tiny scratches). there are detergents that claim to be safe with no etching, but if it has already happened, you can't fix it nowWhy is there always a film left on glass that's washed in the dishwasher?
Is your dishwasher older? I know when I had an older dishwasher that happend, so I would say you may need a new one. Or buy Jet Dry, that stuff works awesome, it makes dishes look sparkling! Otherwise, I would just say wash the expensive fragile stuff by hand and don't put it in the dishwasher.
Was it doing it before?

If this is your first dishwasher, it could be your water.

Try adding vinegar to your dishwasher. I did this to get clear glasses before we put in a water softener and purifier.
It's NOT a film on the glasses...It's your glasses being etched from the chemical in the dishwasher soap...try a good rinse additive in the rinse cycle
Use Jet Dri rinse agent in your dishwasher. It works great!
