I have seen some at a friends house, they are cool and embrace the idea of recycling. Like a corona bottle but the top cut off and polished smooth. But she got hers at a market and i don't know where I could take them to get done, I am seeing broken glass everywhere... needs glass cutters... ???Can I safely make glasses from washed beer and spirit bottles?
yes, and actually kind of easy. They sell bottle cutters for that task. Just make sure the bottles are clean and not cracked. After using the bottle cutter, just use fine sand paper, a 400 grit, than use a finer 800-1200 grit to polish the top rim where you cut.

What is the best paint to use on glass? How do you make it where you can wash the glasses?
Sherwin Williams sells a paint called TileClad. It,s a 2 part epoxy paint that has superior bonding strength and durability. It dries harder than concrete. It's a bit messy and not the easiest paint to work with though. What is the best paint to use on glass? How do you make it where you can wash the glasses?
If you are willing to hand wash, the enamels used on models will stand up fairly well, especially if you thoroughly clean the glass with soap and water before painting and then wipe it down with denatured alcohol for best adhesion.
If you want it as tough as commercial glasses and bottles, then you have to use real enamels which are glass based glazes that are fired onto the glass.

Everytime i wash dishes in the dishwasher they come out with nasty spots all over the glasses, what do i need?
jet dry.
you probably have hard water and it leaves deposits.
either get jet dry or dry them by hand.Everytime i wash dishes in the dishwasher they come out with nasty spots all over the glasses, what do i need?
I no longer have a dishwasher. Although, when I did I used a product called Diamond Brite. It was amazing. I stopped using the dishwasher becasue of the spots, film, etc. When i get another dishwasher I will use that product again.Everytime i wash dishes in the dishwasher they come out with nasty spots all over the glasses, what do i need?
If they are water spots, you need Jet Dry or another rinse agent. But if there is powder residue or food residue you may be using too much detergent. The soap suds can't be rinsed away and they leave food particles and detergent residue on your glasses.
Do you have hard water? You may need a water softner.
Mine did the same.
Jet dry and maybe a different detergent.

Is it legal in NY for a 16 y/o to be behind the bar only washing glasses?
Does someone have to be with me to supervise?
If so, how old does the supervisor have to be? Is it legal in NY for a 16 y/o to be behind the bar only washing glasses?
That doesn't sound like a great place for a 16 yr. old. I do know that we have people of all ages running their own business with my company, even my 6 yr. old gets a paycheck every month, maybe it's a little safer for you.
Let me know if you would like some info to look at, I can e-mail it to you. Just e-mail me at jvaracalli@verizon.net.

Why is it that everytime I wash my cups/glasses in the dishwasher...?
...they come out looking clean and dry and everything, but when you fill it up with water you see suds in the water??
I've tried using different brand detergents, but it still comes out like this. This never happened before.
Please advise. Why is it that everytime I wash my cups/glasses in the dishwasher...?
Maybe the rinse aid.Why is it that everytime I wash my cups/glasses in the dishwasher...?
It's possible that you are putting too much detergent in the dishwasher, so you get some residue on the glasses, cups, etc. You could also put the dishwasher on a different cycle. I always have mine on the normal setting, but I think that a higher setting exists.
maybe your cups/glasses is just the wrong time of material. It might be one of those cheap ones, they are rubbish and you cant really do anything with them.Maybe try using a different cup,see if the same thing happens ,if yes then there is something wrong with your water.
You should use a rinse aid, like Jet-Dry, if you are not already. It makes a big difference. Most dishwasher makers recommend it.

Is it ok to reuse plates and glasses without washing?
I have been doing this for a while now. I make sure to eat everything on the plate and after eating I put the utensils in the fridge and then reuse them for the next meal. I've not washed any of it for months now. So far I've not had any sickness or illnesses from this, so is it ok?Is it ok to reuse plates and glasses without washing?
cold temps. do not kill bacteria, it only keeps them from reproducing, chemicals or heat is the only way. hey, can you say E.coli? Is it ok to reuse plates and glasses without washing?
Noooooooooooooooooo.
No. But why ask if you are already doing this?
No, this is very unsanitary, if you really hate doing dishes that much I suggest you invest in getting a dish washer....=)
Is this a joke question? You're either sick minded, lazy, or dumb.
It is not possible to give yourself a disease but you are taking somewhat of a chance with this approach. Should a vector, such as a mouse, fly, or roach contaminate a surface you could acquire a pathogen but the fact that you haven't tells me your chances are not large for doing so.
that is so gross and lazy, it dosent take that much effort to wash your dishes, sure glad i dont eat at your house.
Ok I guess your probably serious, at first I totally thought you were kidding. Please don't get offended but WHY? are you doing this? Laziness? Not enough time? Please start washing them...gross...your gonna get sick eventually
The answer is NO.
You're disgusting. What is wrong with you. Why do you want to purposely eat potentially harmful bacteria?
If you're too lazy to wash your dishes, may I suggest getting an automatic electric dishwasher.
dont get offended, but thats reallyyyy gross and lazy. why dont you wash them? u ARE going to get sick eventually. thats pretty wierd too...i would throwup if i did that :0

Washing a glass jar it broke in my hand and cut my left thumb profusely. Now it's healed but cannot bend it.?
the top of thumb cannot bend on its own towards the palm. It is straight. Now I can touch my little finger with it,but I cannot bend it.Washing a glass jar it broke in my hand and cut my left thumb profusely. Now it's healed but cannot bend it.?
A trip to your PCP is in order . You may have damaged your ligaments , muscles ,or tendons in your hand . Not being able to bend it shows that you cut deeper than you thought . Scar tissue can encapsulate your tendons , ligaments , and muscles so it could be that . A doctor will be able to test to see if that is in-fact what you did , the course of treatment will range from physical therapy to surgery .Washing a glass jar it broke in my hand and cut my left thumb profusely. Now it's healed but cannot bend it.?
is that where the cut is? Do you mean that when you try to bend it there's no function at all, or that you can't bend it because it's painful or feels like there's something in the way?
P.S. I hope you put anti-biotic like neosporin on it, or peroxide if its not a real deep cut, and preferably a bandage. How long ago did you cut it? If it was just recently, then I'd just try to rest it and wait a few days. If it's been a while, then you may have severed a nerve or ligaments or something (although it would hurt more if it were ligaments) and should get that checked out.
Go to the doctor. Just go to the doctor. There might be scar tissue or infection...extreme stiffness isn't a good sign.

I keep on getting a greasy nose i wear glasses and wash my face in the morning and at night any 1 got any idea
on how to sort this problem outI keep on getting a greasy nose i wear glasses and wash my face in the morning and at night any 1 got any idea
Same here, I have upped the amount of times I actually wash my face, and i have made sure that I drink plenty of water and avoid too much fatty foods. I know my glasses draw attention away from the shiny nose but it does make me self concious too. You can always use tea tree products or cleansing lotions intended for greasy/combination skin.I keep on getting a greasy nose i wear glasses and wash my face in the morning and at night any 1 got any idea
Seems to me like you just have an oily t-zone! why don't you buy some oil blotting sheets from clearasil or clinique, that solves the problem on the spot! Also, don't use facial cleansers that have oil in them, or that are too cheap or harsh on your face. Just because you want a less oily skin does not mean you want to dry it out. Try something moderate, like clean and clear from neutragena..wow I sound like a commercial..
Dab/wipe a little witch-hazel onto the oily area, it helps without being too strong, I think that you can get them in the form of wipes.
When have you checked your blood pressure?
High blood pressure can cause such symptoms.
yur fash is oily, avoide putting a lot of products on yur face.
and get fash wash fer oily skin.
pik as best answer plz
It's your bodies natural defences protecting you.Better to have moist skin where your glasses rest than to have dry irritated skin. However, you could always carry a cotton hanky in your pocket and wipe your face when you feel the need.

Why do washing machines have a glass window?
whats the point in the window? Why do washing machines have a glass window?
So you can see if you put a cat in there by accident. Why do washing machines have a glass window?
We used to have an old twin tub years ago, which you can't see in. After a period of laundry drought (sometimes up to 2 weeks) we opened it up and found a mouldy stinking pile of forgotten laundry! A window is a fairly good idea!!
To give you an idea of the progress of your washing....Too many suds? What cycle you are in.? Is it washing? Rinsing? Spin dry? Just a look will tell you a lot.. It's actually better than some of the TV shows..(and NO commercials.!!)
So you can see inside. It also entertains small children-they will sit for hours and watch the clothes rotating round and round. Also it bemuses cats.
so if your really bored you can watch your close wash...other than that....no point at all for it other than so the washing machine manufacturer can charge a higher price for that model
There used to be twin tubs - no glass doors and you can even get the automatic ones without glass doors rare but they are out there somewhere!
What an excellent point, im starting a campaign to get a window in dishwashers.
So you can tell if it hasn't drained all the water out, and so won't open the door.
xx
to check on your washing as the cycle goes on in chase there is some thing wrong and you cant stop it or to see how long the cycle has left
so you can watch your washing when theres nothing on tv or YA is taking a breather
so you can see your ipod in the waves
There isn't a reason. Some people just like to see things go around and around. Then they puke!
So your chihuahua can see out.
so if theres a little kid in there u can stop him from dying, or what the guy said above this message
So people can wave if their in there.
haha answerer one is sooo funny!!%26gt;.

its so that u can see if the clothes are clean, and soap free.! x

When i wash my glasses and put them on a towl to dry they always come out smelling like mildew, what can i do?
and yes the towel is always cleanWhen i wash my glasses and put them on a towl to dry they always come out smelling like mildew, what can i do?
Sorry, but clean is not always enough.
Sounds stupid, and it is why I did not answer last night.
Mildew is a living organism.
So you need to Kill it to get rid of the odor.
BLEACH It Kills mildew.
Take a day, and RUN BLEACH, only bleach through your washer.
Then run ALL your towels through, with bleach.
Then run another empty load with just bleach through the washer.
Unless you have a new High Efficiency Washer. Then there is special cleaner that you would run through it to kill all these moldy odorsWhen i wash my glasses and put them on a towl to dry they always come out smelling like mildew, what can i do?
What kind of dish soap do you use? Try some baking soda in your dish water, then put your glasses in a dish rack after you wash them so the air can get to them.
Put them upside down only briefly so the water inside drains, then turn them right side up to finish drying. And change the towel often.
Try using a draining rack instead, and when most of the water has dried, polish them with a linen cloth, or at any rate one that won't leave any lint.
Try spraying a bit of lemon juice (diluted with water), that stuff takes the smell out of everything

lay off the steroidsI was washing the dishes and suddenly a cup of glass explode in my hand what was that?
A sudden change in the temperature of glass will cause it to expand and/or contract and break. i.e hot wash water/cool rinse water
That happened to me once too, I have a scar on my right index finger because it broke as I was washing a glass and bled everywhere. You can see the scar where it cut my finger up. This was about 12 years ago. Maybe try using more slightly hotter than warm water to wash, instead of straight hot hot water, then your glass won't break. It is hot and cold mix. A couple of plates of mine broke too. weird. eh?
A quick change in temperature will sometimes do that. I would rather believe that you have special powers. Maybe you should look into it, focus your energy.
It was probably a temperature change, as others have pointed out. Thicker glasses (and ceramic) are more prone to breaking from heat shock than thinner glasses, since thicker glass is unable to equalize its temperature as quickly as thin glass. I'm guessing the glass that broke was a tumbler or coffee mug, rather than something like a wine glass.
Hi. The glass may have had a small crack or stress defect. Glad you were not hurt!
I think the temperature change idea or the small crack or weak spot idea. That happened to me too and I took a big chunk out of my pinky, ER couldn't do anything about it becase of the cut. Just be careful. Plastic!
maybe it's because you use hot water and when you put it down it got cold and it exploded
even the other way around
it happen to me when i was cleaning a cold cup and when i was finished with it (i wash with hot water) it exploded.
or you could just have a ghost in your house
sometimes when you put cold water on hot glass or vice versa the glass will break.
were you singing opera at the time?
did you hit a really high note?
no???
then it could be that it had a hairline crack that you could not see but the way you held it caused it to break
Did you rinse in cold water? A sudden change in temperature can cause rapid expansion or contraction in glass, making it less stable. The bonds holding those molecules together can break, causing the glass to shatter. Use warmer water to rinse next time.
A while back, I moved into my new apartment, and heat wasn't on yet, and it was VERY cold. I was washing a glass mug of mine under some warm water and the thing just exploded...it was so sudden. Anyways, I figured out that it was the temperature difference between the air and the water. Next time, cooler water wash and warm rinse...makes sparklier dishes anyways!
it's a sign from DEATH himself... be careful what you do and who you do it to, huh? just be careful!!! ;~}
That is so weird but a similar thing happened to me. I was cleaning a glass shelf from my refrigerator and it crumbled into a thousand pieces in my sink. Your glass cup may have been cracked and like tectonic plates and earthquakes it built up pressure on the crack or fault line, the pressure was released when your glass exploded.
It's because you probably rinsed the glass with cold water when it was still hot from being washed. That makes glass crack and since you were probably gripping the glass it made it bust in your hand. Hope your hand is okay btw!
it couldve been some of sort of chemical thing, or u could possesed by some sort of glassbreaking aliens trying to turn u into some glass breaking maniac- RUN 4 UR LIFE, DUDE!!!!!
I had that happen to me before but I was actaully still washing the glass and it exploded in my hand and i had to go get stitches .
It was either a temperature variation within the glass; Or you have a ghost.
Sounds like fast temperature change. Did you rinse it in very cold water?
lay off the steroidsI was washing the dishes and suddenly a cup of glass explode in my hand what was that?

add just a bit of bleach to the wash and there are rinse aids available to put in rinse water, it you rinse under running tap water, use hot and then cool slightly.
Maybe add a little Jet Dry to your rinse water?

Washing sugar away with a glass full of water?
One day I refused a very sugary, chocolate brownie because I had already eaten so many sugary treats for the day--and I eat a lot of it in general eventhough it makes me jittery at times...My friend, who offered it, says that its okay to over-indulge as long as I wash it down with lots of water. Who else believes this to be true? I'm not really buying this, plus I'm not a big fan of drinking water. He made it sound so simple.Washing sugar away with a glass full of water?
You are right. Water cannot reduce the empty calories in candy. However, drinking water is good.Washing sugar away with a glass full of water?
This is not true at all.
Definitely not true. Nothing is ever going to ';reverse'; eating junkfood. Water is great for keeping healthy in many other ways though; keeping you hydrated and can also be drunk instead of an unhealthy snack (keeps you full for awhile). It just isn't helpful in the way your friend is talking about.

How can I remove the blue grey bloom on glasses washed in a dishwasher?
I have tried various makes of washer tablet but none seem to work. How can I remove the blue grey bloom on glasses washed in a dishwasher?
iI use the tablets but also have rinse aid in my machine, regulated down low, as tablets have (apparently :-)rinse aid anyway. I find ';Glist'; better than ';Finish';.How can I remove the blue grey bloom on glasses washed in a dishwasher?
By immidately rinsing individually and drying them imidiately by had with a towel/tissue. I just use the big kitchen tissue roll, if you dry them immidiately by hand they remain spotless and fogless.
Your dishwasher may not be getting hot enough (130 to 140 degrees) to dissolve the detergent. This causes an effect like sandblating on glassware. Even some liquid detergents need this temp to work properly.
First check the washer. Clean the filter. Top up the salt in the softener. Make sure rinse aid is topped up. Use a decent tablet, and the only one I find keeps my glassware clear is Finish. The powerball sort. It might take a couple of washes to get the sparkle back.student loan

I moved out of my glass house the moment I gave my life to the Lord and He washed away all my sins and took away all my guilt.
Now I no longer live in a glass house, nor do I throw stones at anyone else.
If there is anyone else that needs to move out of your glass House, seek the Lord.
lol, I pay some bum on the street to use spit and a newspaper. It only costs $1. He buys booze with it. Yeah, I'm okay with that....
I would love to make a sarcastic remark, just to be funny, but I won't. Seriously, you have a very good point there.
Take care :)
Actually, our house gets washed for free. My wife just walks around all day naked on wash day. ;-)

Why are my glass glasses looking foggy when getting washed in the dishwasher?
i have tried jet dry and vingear and 2 different kinds of soap... any suggestionsWhy are my glass glasses looking foggy when getting washed in the dishwasher?
Try changing the brand of detergent. Your glasses may be getting etched rather than accumulating deposits. Cascade and Electrosol tend not to do this. Some areas ban phosphates, so that might be what is happening. Why are my glass glasses looking foggy when getting washed in the dishwasher?
This is going to sound weird, but it works, I swear!
Sometimes the dishwasher needs to be cleaned out. Sounds like some bad residue problems. Run the dishwasher through a cycle completely empty... but instead of using regular soap or a rinse agent, put 2 scoops of Tang (yes, the orange breakfast drink mix) in the soap dispenser.
Cleans it completely and clears any crud or buildup. AND it will also clean any discoloration inside the dishwasher.
[kind of makes you wonder if kids should be drinking it. LOL]
God bless!
This same thing happened to me when I had a frigidair dishwasher. It was super annoying, and I also found that my silverware had a funny coating after a while too. Don't use the heated dry and rinse your dishes really well after they are washed.
I never found a way to fix this, but luckily my dishwasher broke within 2 months of purchasing it, so I switched to a whirlpool model and I haven't had the problem since.
Have you noticed whether or not your jet dry is dispensing? There is an adjustment in the center of the area where you pour your jet dry. Look at this area and if it is set at 1 move it up a position or maybe two. Your dishwasher may not be dispensing the jet dry or not enough.
Check your water temperature at your kitchen fawcet. Your water temperature should be at least 120-140 degrees. If the temperature is not adequate enough, your detergent may not be disolving and etching your glasses. This could be an element in the dishwasher, hot water heater not turned up enough, or maybe your water heater has an issue.
Keep in mind that if you live in the country and you are purchasing detergent in town, the phospurus rating in the detergent may be different than what you need. Grocery stores will carry detergents that have a phosphurus rating for the area they are located in. Good Luck

Sounds to me like you need rinse aid. I thought rinse aid was a scam at first, just another ';accessory'; for the dishwasher but it does several things. If you have hard water it is brilliant for ensuring the water in your machine FULLY rinses your dishes allowing all soap build-up to be washed away. They also help the dishes dry faster, so you don't get those little white dots on them.
Some dishwasher detergents, powders and tablets claim that they have rinse aid in them, but i have found buying the separate rinse aid liquid works best. It's cheap and lasts for months!!! Check your manual for the location of your rinse aid compartment.
Hopefully this should help and your glasses will be *sparkling* clean!!!

**************************************鈥?br>
Step1
Create a separate load for heavily soiled cloths or those used with toxic cleaners or finishing products. Set these aside.
Step2
Use stain remover on visible oil or grease spots and let treated items sit for a short period.
Step3
Adjust the washing machine's water level to small, medium or large, covering the amount of microfiber cloths you are cleaning.
Step4
Select a cold-water wash and normal or gentle cycle, depending on the weight of the load.
Step5
Start the washing machine and add soap according to the package directions.
Step6
Wash the extra-soiled load separately in warm or hot water, depending on the degree of the grime you see.
Step7
Dry a whole load of cloths in the dryer on low, or hang them to air dry if you have the space.

Tips :
Use a stain remover on cloths that you employ for cleaning. A great source for such removers is the pet-care aisle. Some pet carpet cleaners are all-purpose stain lifters. Check the labels.
Microfiber cloths dry very fast due to their construction. If you want to save on dryer power, hang the cloths, and they'll dry in no time.
Avoid heat, as it will damage and shrink microfiber cloths. Keep them away from prolonged contact with wet or dry heat. How to wash eye glasses microfiber cloth ?

My dishwasher has made my glasses all foggy and when I wash by hand they remain foggy. Any suggestions?
I can't even remove the 'dirty look' by using a towel to try clean the glasses. My dishwasher has made my glasses all foggy and when I wash by hand they remain foggy. Any suggestions?
If your glasses don't come ';clean'; or clear with a product like CLR, then your problem is the glass itself is etched, and there is nothing you can do about it. Often times, dishwasher detergents are a bit harsher than regular dish soap and will slowly remove the finishes off dishes and etch (scratch) glasses. Using a rinse agent like ';Jet Dry'; will help slow or eliminate the damage.
Good Luck! ;)My dishwasher has made my glasses all foggy and when I wash by hand they remain foggy. Any suggestions?
If this continues to happen, I say it is time for a new dishwasher. If you dont have the money for that (which is totally understandable) you must do a cold cycle on your washer if it has it. See, if you do a hot wash a lot of steam comes and therefore fogs up your glasses. Think of how when you breathe on a window, it will get all foggesd up. Hope this helped! :) Best of Luck
do you use a rinsing agent? That could help. also, once a month your dishwasher needs to be cleaned without dishes to get rid of food particles and soap residue. Add one cup of vinegar to the bottom of your dishwasher and turn on. Remember, don't have any dishes especially silverware!
good luck
Steam it, or rather point the glass into the steaming air, then wipe it off by a slightly damp soft cloth.
Or you can just let it air dry after you wash it on the dishwasher, pull it out just when it's done and don't get it off the tray, let it air dry first...
Clean your glasses with a little shaving cream. It keeps them from fogging up for a while.

Can you wash those cloths for cleaning eye glasses?
My husband is a carpenter and his glasses get very dirty. I'd like to wash the cleaning cloth he has, but I don't think I should use soap on it.
Reccomendations? Can you wash those cloths for cleaning eye glasses?
Yes, you can wash the cleaning cloths. When you do don't use fabric softener and let them air dry instead of putting them in the dryer. Never store the cloth wet.
When your husband cleans his glasses, have him rinse the lenses under the tap and use mild soap to clean the lenses (Dial, Dawn etc..). Then use the spray and pat the lenses dry with the cloth. Don't use paper products (Kleenex, toilet paper, dryer sheets, paper towels) to clean or dry the lenses because this will scratch the lenses (even if you have scratch protection). A dish towel or old cotton T-shirt works to dry the lenses too. Never clean or wipe the lenses dry - if there's any dirt or debris on the lenses you'll just grind it into the lenses and scratch them (even if you have scratch protection).
Don't use Windex or products with ammonia in them because this will degrade any scratch or antireflective treatment on the lenses. Sparkle is ok to use.Can you wash those cloths for cleaning eye glasses?
If you're going to wash a eye glass cleaning cloth, I'd hand wash it in mild soap. You don't want it to lose it's softness, otherwise, it will scratch the lenses.
My glasses get dirty every day with the dust in my apartment *I know that sounds weird, but it's true, this place is older than me, lol*
You may wash the cloth with a dab of shampoo or gentle detergent. You could even use dish soap!
I've done both and as long as the cloth dries naturally, and it doesn't take long, it will be as good as new.
I have actually cut up some of the microfiber dust cloths just for this use. They work fine too.
Wash them, don't use fabric softener, use 1 cup vinegar in the rinse!
Seriously! (Best cleaning cloths for glasses is cloth baby diapers!)
Raised 5 kids, 4 have glasses! (hubby too)
You can wash them but don't put fabric softener in them because it will leave a film on the glasses. I wash mine a lot.
Yes you can ,,,without fabric softener leaves a film ,,,,,,,,
I wash them, yet after a time they don't seem to do as good a job.
I do.
i dont see why u wouldnt be able to wash them and i disagree with the other..u can put it in dryer on med or even low

Why does our dishwasher have what looks like sand on the glasses after we wash the dishes?
either your dishes are still too dirty and you need to pre-rinse or you have hard water. Try some jetdry works for us.Why does our dishwasher have what looks like sand on the glasses after we wash the dishes?
Try running the dishwasher (with no dishes in side) with some CLR follow directions, and for a better alternative other than CLR use vinegar again with no dishes inside the dishwasher to clean the inside of the dishwasher, %26amp; when washing the dishes try using jet dry to help keep the dishwasher running like new (read the bottle for directions). Last but not least rinse the dishes before putting them in the dishwasher (rising off any food particles) if none of the above works contact the manufacture and see what they have to say you may need to buy a new dishwasher. Why does our dishwasher have what looks like sand on the glasses after we wash the dishes?
I wandered the same thing , because mine had started doing that , and what I have done is started using less dishwasher detergent , and instead of jet dry I pour white vinegar in the place where it goes , and I also realized that it is also some food particles along with the detergent that was in my glasses so I had to start rincing the dishes before i put them into the dishwasher , or hand wash my glases , nothing else had the sand looking stuff on the top rack except for the gllasses and I think that it is wierd , but when I use less soap it isnt there .....
good advice here since most people do use too much soap in the d/w's but when that happens you will get a white, cloudy film on your dishes.
your problem is you dont have hot enough water to dissolve the soap properly. make sure you water heater is at least 120 degrees and that you are using the water heat option. some call it high temp wash and others call it temp boost, but you need hot water to make your unit work properly and dissolve the soap to get rid of the grit.
I use a pre-measured tab like ELECTROSOL in my dishwasher however, I would get tiny particles in my dishwasher so I cleaned the filter out in the door AND I run an empty load once a month of unsweetened drinkmix like Kool-Aid or Lemonade of some sort.. It takes any deposits off you machine and won't harm it at all !
Good luck
Most people use way too much dish machine soap, the soap has sharp edges and will eventually etch into the glass (like sand-blasting); once the undissolved soap has been shot around your dishes a bunch, it is fine enough to be like sand.
just add a bit of bleach for a few washes . then use a half cup of vinegar per wash and you wont have that prob again and it is cheaper than the spot rinse .
Sounds like your using too much soap. You should use Jet Dry, makes your dishes rinse good on the rinse cycle
try cleaning the filter on the door

Why is it that sometimes the crockery I have washed smells of ';wet dogs';? Glass and china seem worst affected
It seems to happen when I have been cooking eggs ( I always use teflon pans) and wonder if its anything to do with that? It's a really horrible smell and sometimes needs a soak in boiling water to get rid of it.Why is it that sometimes the crockery I have washed smells of ';wet dogs';? Glass and china seem worst affected
No way should you blame the smell on eggs this has something to do with your water or your cloth or sponge you have used to wash your pots and pans and dishes, you can rid this problem by adding two to three tablespoons of White Vinegar to your dishwashing liquid, this will help to disinfect and help your dishwashing liquid last longer or you can simply follow these directions Clean china, crystal, and glassware
Put the sparkle back in your glassware by adding vinegar to your rinse water or dishwater.
To keep your everyday glassware gleaming, add 1/4 cup vinegar to your dishwasher's rinse cycle.
To rid drinking glasses of cloudiness or spots caused by hard water, heat up a pot of equal parts white vinegar and water (use full-strength vinegar if your glasses are very cloudy), and let them soak in it for 15-30 minutes. Give them a good scrubbing with a bottle brush, then rinse clean.
Add 2 tablespoons vinegar to your dishwater when cleaning your good crystal glasses. Then rinse them in a solution of 3 parts warm water to 1 part vinegar and allow them to air-dry. You can also wash delicate crystal and fine china by adding 1 cup vinegar to a basin of warm water. Gently dunk the glasses in the solution and let dry.
To get coffee stains and other discolorations off china dishes and teacups, try scrubbing them with equal parts vinegar and salt, followed by rinsing them under warm water
Or try this solution for your pots and pans Remove stains from pots, pans, and ovenware
Nothing will do a better job than vinegar when it comes to removing stubborn stains on your cookware. Here's how to put the power of vinegar to use:
Give those dark stains on your aluminum cookware (caused by cooking acidic foods) the heave-ho by mixing in 1 teaspoon white vinegar for every cup of water needed to cover the stains. Let it boil for a couple of minutes, then rinse with cold water.
To remove stains from your stainless steel pots and pans, soak them in 2 cups white vinegar for 30 minutes, then rinse them with hot, soapy water followed by a cold-water rinse.
To get cooked-on food stains off your glass ovenware, fill them with 1 part vinegar and 4 parts water, heat the mixture to a slow boil, and let it boil at a low level for five minutes. The stains should come off with some mild scrubbing once the mixture cools.
They call it nonstick, but no cookware is stainproof. For mineral stains on your nonstick cookware, rub the utensil with a cloth dipped in undiluted distilled vinegar. To loosen up stubborn stains, mix 2 tablespoons baking soda, 1/2 cup vinegar, and 1 cup water and let it boil for 10 minutes.
And I would like to suggest to you to try this on your cloth or sponge that you use for washing your dishes with pour a little White Vinegar on ;your sponge or cloth to clean and disinfect them after use no rinsing required it will clean and deodorize them and they will be free of bacteria Good Luck !Why is it that sometimes the crockery I have washed smells of ';wet dogs';? PROBABLY something to do with the washing-up liquid that you use, and how it reacts to certain food stuff.
yeah?? i was wandering why wet dogs smell like pans used to boil eggs!!!
Cant beat mshonnies answer, shes smart!!!
I had a similar problem to this, and it took me ages to work out the problem. I have a rack to hold plates, cups, etc. where I put the washed items and let them drain. Over time some of the water that drained off pooled up on the draining board and became stagnent. So I gave the draing board a really good clean and now the smell has gone away completely.
Acting as a plumber, i'd proffer that it is the mains water. Your drains could be blocked, or the water is not as palatable as it should be. Contact the water board
I think what you are smelling is dust. often when crockery has been stored for a while without being used , there is a slight dust build up, which reacts to water and gives off a smell.
You are doing your washing up in MARSTON'S PEDIGREE
Seriously guys it's the sulphur............Marston's beer is made with water that has a high sulphur content and always smells like wet labrador to me ! The question should be :-Why do dogs smell so awful?
The answer is obvious. You are a lousy housekeeper. My dishes never have any odor. You have a filthy sponge, weak detergent and a grimey drainer.

How to wash mold out of glasses?
I was drinking some chocolate milk (with Ovaltine), and now, 1-3 days later, it's green/blueish looking.
I saw a question on here asking what the green stuff in their milk was, but no one answered how to wash it out.
I'm assuming like regular dishes, right? Just wanted to check.
Thanks. How to wash mold out of glasses?
Wash with regular soap and water, rinse the glass so that no soap remains, and soak the glass in a 10% bleach (90% cold water) solution for about 10 minutes or so. AGAIN, rinse the glass so that no bleach remains, and you're clean. Rinsing the glass of the bleach can be done with hot water, since hot water tends to break the bleach down better than cold water. How to wash mold out of glasses?
If you have a dishwasher with anti-bacterial functions then I don't think it'd be an issue with the glasses.

What would you think if you are washing dishes & a glass kind of explodes out of the blue?
and you didn't even touch it, %26amp; it wasn't an accident, it popped, it scared me, I didn't know where the big noise was coming from, what could've caused it, seriously? What would you think if you are washing dishes %26amp; a glass kind of explodes out of the blue?
Me, I'd think, ';Damn, another broken glass!';
If you're looking for an explanation, it wasn't anything paranormal, if that's what you were thinking. Odds are almost certain it was one of two things. Either there was a temperature gradient that caused it to shatter, or it might have slid and bumped into something else in just the right way.
Unless the glass had nostalgic value for you, I wouldn't worry too much about it.What would you think if you are washing dishes %26amp; a glass kind of explodes out of the blue?
I'd think my mutant superpowers are just begining to realize themselves.

I would think it is time to buy a dishwasher.
I think ';Oh, crap! That was scary!';
Seriously, it comes from stress and dislocations in glass. Even if your glass wasn't sitting on the hot stove at the moment, there were times in its life when it was exposed to hight temperatures, possibly was knocked over before but didn't shatter back then. When glass is made, it cools off unevenly - so there are always internal stresses in glass. Tiny cracks that are not visible to the eye are introduced over glass's life time. Those cracks can start expaning spontaneously from a minor temperature change in the room.
One thing I'd think was who fired that shot or am I hurt? I'd agree with everyone else some kind of stress or temperature change.
I would think that it had a crack, a weakness or a flaw that gave in with the expansion or contraction caused by temperature change - like hot dish water
I would be thinking:
Product liability lawsuit!!!
There is a famous case when coke bottle exploded.
One of two things can cause it. A rapid temperature change or sonics.
If you just washed it in hot water or it had hot liquid in it, the change in temperature (even if its empty and just cooling off) can cause it to crack without even touching it.

What is the best way to avoid water spots when hand washing a crystal wine glass?
An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure so . . .Rinse the glass in as hot of water as you can stand and/or try to dry them immediately. In your home, it is easy to dry them by hand to avoid spots. In a bar however where you go through a lot of wine glasses you use a good rinse agent in the water, then after they air dry, you use a cotton terry cloth and ';polish'; them before hanging them in the rack.
If the stains are stubborn, run a pitcher of hot water and hold the wine glass inverted over the water so that the steam fogs up the glass, then polish with a dry cloth. What is the best way to avoid water spots when hand washing a crystal wine glass?
Wash and dry the stemware as normal. Before storing, run very hot tap water in the sink. Hold the wine glass upside down over the water to fog it up a little. Wipe off the steam with a soft, lint free cloth. What is the best way to avoid water spots when hand washing a crystal wine glass?
Try rinsing with hot water and then place upside down on a Cotton towel, that should work because I had the same problem!
I have found the best way to dry crystal wine glasses without any spots is to first shake off the excess water, then use a ';mircofiber'; cloth. They are used on camera lenses and eyeglasses to clean them. They work great on crystal.
Hand washing is the best but then rinse (hot water) thoroughly, I mean thoroughly and then hang the wine glass so that excess water runs off.
Rinse very thoroughly in hot water and immediately dry with a soft cloth or paper towel.
if you have spots- Use a cloth dampened with vinegar
Use hot soapy water, rinse well and dry with a lint free towel while still hot.
Smart people know to never let crystal touch the bottom of the sink!
.
Dry the glass right away.

Will Sharpie Marker Wash Off Windows/Glass?
OK, So I was gonna draw a picture on my window but I wanted to make sure I'd be able to wash it off later. Will Sharpie Marker Wash Off Windows/Glass?
If you draw with a permanent marker on glass, you can get it off with a dry erase marker. Draw with your permanent marker, then like scribble over it with the dry erase marker. Then wipe away. Works well. As always, test a small spot before you actually draw on your whole window. =)Will Sharpie Marker Wash Off Windows/Glass?
Sharpie comes off anything with nail polish remover, but if you want to write on your windows or mirrors, use dry erase markers, they wipe off with a tissue.
Sanford (the manufacturer) has a great website and it used to include info on how to remove particular products from various surfaces.
You might want to check it out.
well the longer it is there the longer it will have to dry . So if it is there for a couple maybe 30 seconds u can still erase it.
Yes it will. Use rubbing alcohol (isoprophyl alcohol)
any kind of rubbing alcohol (isopropyl or ethanol) will work.
YES. But I would use a dry erase marker instead.

Broken Glass in Car Wash - Who Should Pay!?
I went through a car wash yesterday with my car (duh) and toward the end I heard a loud noise on the roof of my car. I thought something had fallen on it but that wasn't it. I got out and looked at the roof of my car to find that my sunroof had shattered completely! There was almost no glass left in there! Now I went in there with a perfectly fine sunroof and left with no sunroof at all...who's fault is this and who should pay for it?
A note too - This isn't the first time I went through that same car wash; the person there even said he recognizes me from going through before so it's not like the sunroof was in bad condition or weak.
My car did look great at the end though =DBroken Glass in Car Wash - Who Should Pay!?
sue the helI out of themBroken Glass in Car Wash - Who Should Pay!?
Unless you can prove that something inside the car wash hit your sunroof or fell onto your sunroof, there is nothing you can do. It is difficult to say what actually happened. Perhaps the sunroof was extremely cold and they used very hot water or it was very warm and they used very cold water. It should not have shattered either way, but strange things do happen.
Your comprehensive insurance on your car should cover the damage. There may be a small deductible. I do not think that you will have any luck trying to get the car wash to pay for it unless you can prove negligence.
How cold was it?
An automated car wash, particularly a touchless wash will not damage a car unless the car already has an issue. My suspicion here is either there was already a problem with the sunroof glass (cracked, bad seal) or the glass was extremely cold and shattered on contact with the hot water. Automotive glass is shockingly intolerate of sudden temperature changes and can be extremely brittle. Qucik temperature change combined with high pressure water could break the glass in the right circumstances.
With most carwashes, the companies say that you use them at your own risk and that they accept no responsibility for any damage caused to your vehicle, so im afraid it will probably be you who has to pay. That said, do check with the carwash operator; they might have some kind of insurance or special policies.
Good luck!
first check with yours and than there insurance company
this is why a lot of washes are going touchless
you would need to prove a defect in there brush for them to pay you could always try and sue them in small claims coourt they may opt to settle rather than hire a lawyer to defend them (buisness usually hire lawyers its not required)
They should pay, unless they had a sign that specifically stated that they were not responsible for broken glass or windows.
Well, I'm assuming that by entering the carwash you read a list of regulations and assume responsibility.
By going though the car wash, passes full responibilty onto u
call your insurance and ask them, go to the car wash and ask about their policy on damages to vehicles. chances are they will not be liable and this will have to be done at your own cost.
damn,i would hope that car wash sent you right to the glass shop to get it repaired ! negative remarks about this could ruin that car-wash
obviously you should pay for your car's maintenance! believe nobody should come up and show you the truth!

You're in a really tough bind in this situation due to the simple fact that car washes typically have policies that imply you are using them at your own risk. However, this does not necessarily mean that they are not responsible, or that you can't or wont be compensated for your damages.
Your first step should be at resolving this directly with the car wash management. If they do not cooperate, you should at a minimum be able to get a receipt from them, the name of the manager, and any other employee names you can gather. Ask the manager for a business card. Once you are home, take pictures, the more the better. You want to document the incident as best as possible.
Your next step should be to take it up with the better business bureau (bbb). You can fill out a report with them online. www.bbb.org The bbb assists consumers in resolving disputes. I have found them to be most helpful in my own past experiences. The bbb does not have the leverage to force any company into compliance, however, they can help you skip right to the right people within the company, and can show the company just how serious you are about resolving the incident. The bbb has a very successful track record in this department.
Lastly, if all else fails, your last resort is to take the company to small claims court. Small claims court can be taken up with any local magistrate. It is usually around $50.00 to take someone to court, and does not require hiring an attorney. If you win the case, the defendants can be ordered to pay your court costs, in addition to damages. When going to small claims court, be sure to have your story straight. Assemble and organize all of your documentation, including correspondance with the bbb, the company, and all photographs. As long as you have done a good job with documentation, you have a good chance of winning your case.student loan

What kind of paint should I use to decorate martini glasses, something that won't wash off easily, or at all?
I want something that is hand washable, and will stick to the glass for a long time. What kind of paint should I use to decorate martini glasses, something that won't wash off easily, or at all?
There are epoxy-based paints that will survive hand-washing. That is what a lot of hand-washables are decorated with at the factory. What kind of paint should I use to decorate martini glasses, something that won't wash off easily, or at all?
Make sure they drink a lot of martinis,in your clear glasses, and after they get drunk tell them how do you like the way I decorated my glasses I'm sure they will love em
there is special glass paint for that purpose. Go to Hobby Lobby or Michaels.

Can you get mono from someone who had mono 2-3 weeks ago by sharing a same glass that has been washed?
I recently used a glass that was used by someone who had mono. They had mono 2-3 weeks ago and has since then not had it. The glass was washed through the dishwasher, and I was wondering if I might of have contracted it through the glass that was shared.
Could you also contract mono from someone who has had it before but currently does not?Can you get mono from someone who had mono 2-3 weeks ago by sharing a same glass that has been washed?
mono is a virus, so I would think that handwashing would be enough. Had you thought you caught something bacterial, I would say no...endospores are pesky little suckers...they live through almost anything. Mono is more direct contact, ie. saliva, etc. That's why it's called the kissing disease. Can you get mono from someone who had mono 2-3 weeks ago by sharing a same glass that has been washed?
Mono is a virus, so antibiotics won't do a thing except potentially stop secondary infections (not the best use of a weakening resource!). However, mono does last for weeks or months, so your friend may still be infectious. The washing should have killed any virus that was on the glass, but any sharing of liquids at all between you and them (or anyone else with mono) may infect you.
In terms of your second question, it depends on how long ago they ';had it';. If it was like your previous friend - 2-3 weeks ago - then yes, as the infectious period hasn't passed. If it was months to years ago, you should be fine. The person is generally completely immune to the virus and will never spread it to you.
Someone normally has mono for up to a six weeks! That's how you got it. Even though they don't show signs..they still have it. The antibotics got rid of the symptoms only...they can't kill the actually virrus.
You can also get it from having strep throat...the antibiotics not treating it or you not dealing with it...and then it can turn into mono. Mono is a SUPER strep.
You can also have it and not have a sore throat. When I got it...I had just a plain ole sore thoat....took antibiotics and went away...developed another sore throat but this felt different...I also had lymp nodes so big you could see them when I turned my head...and was super tired...that was it.. the sore throat was no worse than draining allergies...the first one was way worse. I got a blood test and it was mono...I took strong antibiotics and the symptoms were gone/sore throat...the tiredness lasted for a whole month. I could stll give it to someone even though I showned no signs execept tiredness. I tell you what I had never been so tired in my life. That sucked big ones.
You get mono the same way you do a sore throat...execept if it turns into mono from a previous untreated sore throat.
Mono is caused from a virus. Once you get the virus it never goes away. So even if someone has had mono 2-3 years ago they still have the virus. However, you can only get mono from direct contact with saliva. So if the glass was washed there is no reason to think the mono came from that.

Is it true that you really don't have to wash a beer glass because the alcohol will kill the germs in 8 secs ?
you gotta wash them cause the rim gets all funky looking from the chips etc that you munch on while drinking. Is it true that you really don't have to wash a beer glass because the alcohol will kill the germs in 8 secs ?

no its not true at all..
i'm a member of the B.I.I. [the British Institute of Innkeepers]
bacteria grow faster and faster with the slowly warming glass -as less liquid is in it..
every single drink should be in a clean glass ..
although some old drinkers/bikers have a special pint tankard that they hang from their belt when its empty..
when i pour into these i make sure the nozzle never touches the tankard [or the drink being poured]
i hope this helped you..

Do realize how much spit ends up in the bottom of a glass of beer? How nasty is that? And all the lip gloss and lipstick that women wear? And think of some of the places where some of peoples mouths have been while they have been in a bar or pub? GROSS!!!!
I know for a fact there is a certain degree of hot water that has to be used to clean the glasses!!!
I would say no because no matter how much it could get it wouldn't get as much as you could yourself by cleaning it and with the fact of other peoples mouth being on it, then you should always make sure its as clean as possible
What happens if you have a female wearing lipstick? I once had a glass served to me with lipstick on it and about had a cow over it!
Doubt it, alcohol doesn't kill much besides brain cells to the best of my knowledge
Probably, just rinse the glass out quick to make sure.
I like the left over beer smell
No, I am sure your best case scenario would be a nasty case of herpes...
catz is right, it would also depend on where your drinking it from!
Shouldn't think that's true.

Sure...that's why bar rooms never wash their glasses.............the only think beer kills is your judgement

Can high pressure water from a car wash damage glass?
Yesterday I washed my car at a new place with very high pressure water. Today, there were these tiny ';scratch'; lines across the glass and ';swirl'; lines on the paint on the trunk. I tried wiping it off and it didn't change. The place had 2 car washes and 1 was out of order...maybe something was wrong with the water pressure? Is it even possible to scratch glass with high pressure water alone? It's not like it was a sand blaster... but before I take it to a guy who does individual sponge car washes to see if it's just the soap that got stuck, I thought I would ask here? thanks. Can high pressure water from a car wash damage glass?
I'd say there was grit or grime either on the car or on a cloth or sponge that ground into your paint %26amp; windshield. The high pressure could have pushed it into the paint, or a cloth or sponge could have.
Many windshields have plastic coatings. They prevent the glass from pouring into the car in a crash, but also scratch and haze much easier than glass. Can high pressure water from a car wash damage glass?
It shouldn't, especially with windshield glass that is specially designed to withstand high pressures and a degree of abuse.
But if the glass was already cracked, pitted, or somehow flawed, it has a weak spot that the water pressure could cause to become worse. Sometimes cracks in windshield glass are too fine to see.
Water itself will not scratch glass or car paint finishes, but solid particles within the water could act as a sandblast which could pit or scratch both your windshield and your car's finish.
It is highly unlikely that the water pressure would damage paint or glass. You didn't say, but is this one of those places where you wash the car with a wand and scrub brush? If so, it may be that there was some dirt or sand in the brush from some moron who washed his sand-covered truck with it, but the water pressure would not even come close to the pressure needed to damage the glass or the paint.
It may be possible that particles (like sand and dirt for instance) got into the solution that they used and sprayed onto your car? Thats all i can think of.

If I wash my glasses with dish soap, can it lost prescription?
Like viewing prescriptioN?If I wash my glasses with dish soap, can it lost prescription?
No. The prescription is caused by the curvature and variation of thickness of the glasses. It's that curvature and variation in thickness that bends the light going into your eye so it is just the right size hitting your retina.
Unless you used some insane solvent that would dissolve glass, you got nothing to worry about.
Generally it's best not to use dish soap to clean glasses. It might not hurt the prescription, but it might effect the anti-scratch coating or anti-reflection coatingIf I wash my glasses with dish soap, can it lost prescription?

Is there a way to keep acrylic paint from washing off a glass vase? Trying to salvage a class project :(?
Only AFTER a whole class of 1st graders finished their share of the vases did I realize the paint (water based acrylic) will probably come off with the first use. Any varnish/paint or other way to help preserve the paint? Is there a way to keep acrylic paint from washing off a glass vase? Trying to salvage a class project :(?
go to walmart or michaels and look for a sealer...there are many kinds you can paint over things to seal the paint..the only thing is...you are probably going to have to do it...because it will be toxic to the kidsIs there a way to keep acrylic paint from washing off a glass vase? Trying to salvage a class project :(?
I paint alot of glass. The cheapest thing I've found that works is clear spray paint. The $ .99 can at the dollar store or walmart works great. Just spray an even coat over the piece %26amp; let dry. It'll have a shiny gloss to it %26amp; be easy to clean.
I have found an acrylic varnish. It is an enamel varnish that I found at Michaels especially made for glass. It is in the enamel acrylic paint section.
Sealer will prevent the paint from washing off, but it's too late to apply something that will stop the chipping. Even the sealer will chip off.
you should have primed it with bullseye 123 or used glass paint for crafts
Never heard of anything to help now though sorrystudent loan

Survey: Does a glass of wine wash bitterness away?
red wine and bitterness don't mix!! gotta go for beer and peach vodka chasers...puff, puff, that knocks right off to a sweet, sweet land.Survey: Does a glass of wine wash bitterness away?
NO!!! Who ever told you that is not bitter to begin with. In order to was away bitterness, an entire CASE is required drinking along with a few great friends and a long night out.

well i am not a wine lover, but i don't see how bitterness can wash away bitterness, but it just may since alot of things work that way.why don't you try it,then come back on and tell us of your findings.that might be a good idea!
never just a glass...need the whole bottle, or maybe more!!
wait a minute...hey, m...did you steal my cinnamon roll?? it was right here, just a second ago!!
=)

a glass? well that depends on body weight and alcohol tolerence, but one glass ain't gonna wash nothin' away...maybe wash a cinnamon roll down
I couldn't say because I am teetotal but surely anything that make us slow down %26amp; take some time out for ourselves can only help releive the stress of the day.
A few glasses will wash the memory away..then theres nothing to be bitter about.
No, but I'm pretty sure several shots of tequila will.
Always
hmmm. sometimes it does. depends on the wine you choose
Most definitely! I am so relaxed once I've had a glass of wine.
forget the wine - try whisky

wait a minute...hey, m...did you steal my cinnamon roll?? it was right here, just a second ago!!
=)
xoxo
a glass? well that depends on body weight and alcohol tolerence, but one glass ain't gonna wash nothin' away...maybe wash a cinnamon roll down
I couldn't say because I am teetotal but surely anything that make us slow down %26amp; take some time out for ourselves can only help releive the stress of the day.
A few glasses will wash the memory away..then theres nothing to be bitter about.
No, but I'm pretty sure several shots of tequila will.
Always
hmmm. sometimes it does. depends on the wine you choose
Most definitely! I am so relaxed once I've had a glass of wine.
forget the wine - try whisky
no but it keeps the doctor away
ah yeh. A bottle might cause me to take the trolls out on a date.
NO:))))))))))))
No but a bottle might!!!
it helps wanna share some
it may!
yeah, get all cheeky with that LOL
Nope......she was always still there !
no but 4 or 5 pints of beer does..xx
How do I remove broken glass from my Bosch washing machine?
A wine bottle broke in my luggage and after cleaning up and washing the clothes, I have found a few small slivers of glass in the washing machine drum. Do you know how to make the washing machine safe for general use again (I have a 9 month old who sucks his clothing so I'm a bit concerned).
Thanks
JustinHow do I remove broken glass from my Bosch washing machine?
Since you have a baby you can't take any chances. You'll have to dismantle it to get to the outer drum. I'm sorry that happened to you.

I hand wash my drinking glasses and they seem to have a soapy residue left on them from my dish soap?
How do I get this residue off? (I'm using Method dish soap.) Is there a dish soap that won't cause this residue?I hand wash my drinking glasses and they seem to have a soapy residue left on them from my dish soap?
I use Dawn also, its a De-Greaser. But if that doesn't work on your glasses, and it doesn't work on all of mine either. You can use vinegar. I know it sounds gross, but after you wash the glass, just dunk it in a 2 part vinegar 1 part water mixture. The residue should come right off. If that doesn't work then you probably have hard water, and as much as you rinse it still wont get rid of the soap because of your hard water problem. -Good Luck-I hand wash my drinking glasses and they seem to have a soapy residue left on them from my dish soap?
I use Dawn with no residue noticed
I would go and get some Dawn dish soap. Some times trying different dish soaps isn't all that grate. Dawn cuts any grease.

Why do washing machines have glass doors?
Its not as if we want to watch a pile of dirty laundry go round and round!! So why the glass front? Why do washing machines have glass doors?
So you can make sure you haven't stuffed your kitty in with the clothes. Why do washing machines have glass doors?
Maybe some people don't hear it stop so if they see the laundry has stopped moving it is done. Or it's easier to see if you have something in there in case you forget.
My machine's door isn't visible as it's integrated, but you have a point there. I suppose the glass door is there in case the machine goes wrong and you can check if it's filling/emptying ok without having to open the door and getting water everywhere.
i believe the trend started in laundromats and the glass doors are to see which one you recognize as your laundry.
I had a washer that didn't have a glass door and the wife moaned that she couldn't see if the washing was getting clean or feel if the water was getting warm and she said with a glass door youcan check that the machine is empty and when you open the door you don't get a flood
incase you see something that shouldn't be in there e.g. car keys, money etc
It IS for monkeys like me who like to navel gaze, or see how far along my laundry is, or watching with dread as the water goes pink from tha idden red sock in my hubby's white Tshirt load....
It's more of a luxury feature. Same thing with ovens. My cheap-*** oven doesn't have a window, but what can you really see that opening the door a crack wouldn't show you, besides a really badly-weirdly-lit view of your food through a black screen which you have to bend over to get a view through?
It's just handy to see when it's stopped if it's far away, I suppose, but if you're in a laundramat, it's something to look at besides the soap operas on the TV bolted to the wall.
When I can't find my cat it's the first place I look.
So that I can see if those two soap tablets are stuck yet again to the front rim of the inside of the machine, and not cleaning my washing.
yep, that's it, just for really really bored people to have something to do lol
Its so you can see that 拢20 note that you forgot to take out of the pocket!!
So that people like me can wash the washing going round and round and round and............................I find it very relaxing and therapeutic although my husband says I'm just mad and have OCD.
So u can watch to see what is going on
maybe YOU don't like to watch. i could sit there for hours with a cup of coffee and watch the socks go round and round and round and round.......
because some people have no life
Incase you leave the door open and when your not looking the cat jumps in then you close the door you might rescue that pussy before you drown her
So you can watch your wash get clean!
It is kinda hypnotic - I could think of worse things to watch (look at the cable guide any day of the week)
So okay, I need to get a life!
So you can see your clothes turning pink!
So we can see if the skid marks came out! lol
maybe you dont like watching it but i could watch it all day :) .....ok im going to go get a life now
because liek..u neeed to look inside to see if its done or not. how lese would u know?
For people who can't afford TV.
I love to watch the dirty water rinse out. It makes me feel like I am accomplishing something... Also, my husbands work clothes are so dirty that if the rinse water is dirty I will wash again.

Can you use acrylic paint on glass? will it wash off?
If you are painting a surface that will need cleaning - such as a window, wall tile, or dish - the paint will peel or scratch off once it comes in contact with window cleaner, soap, or hot water.
You can add a film hardener to make the acrylic paint hard as a glaze. I have used and would recommend Golden GAC 200.Can you use acrylic paint on glass? will it wash off?
Acrylics do very nicely on glass, especially if they are thinned out enough to be slightly transparent. Once dry, they will not wash off the glass, but can chip and be scraped off; especially if applied thickly with (relatively) high ridges. Can you use acrylic paint on glass? will it wash off?

How to wash wine glasses?
I have some wine glasses (made out of glass) that are really difficult to clean. There's always stains on them, especially inside of the cup. The stains look like grease stains, but they are clean.
I've tried scrubbing, just using water, wiped with a cloth, washed them in a dishwasher, with and without soap, etc. I've tried air drying them, and even drying them with a cloth.
Also, this goes for all of my wine glasses, so they're not broken or anything, since I always have the same problem. How to wash wine glasses?
It sounds like you've already tried every kind of conventional washing and drying.
If you live in a hard water area, it could be a calcium or some other deposit from the water. I have that problem when we're using creek water and use a product called C.L.R. which stands for Calcium. Lime.Rust. It's sold for getting deposits out of coffee pots and things like that. I'm from Australia so you may not have that particular product where you live (though it's imported here) but there should be something similar. It's fairly expensive, but you only need to use a small amount whever the deposit becomes noticeable. How to wash wine glasses?
What you need to do
Get Mild Dishwashing Detergent
Wine Glasses
Step1Prepare the sink by placing a rubber mat on the bottom of the sink and a rubber guard on the faucet.
Step2Wash the glasses one at a time using a very mild dishwashing detergent and water.
Step3Rinse in warm water.
Step4Dry each glass by hand immediately after rinsing using a soft, dry dish towel.
1-2 hours after using them, pre-soak in warm water and dish washing detergent. Then try standing them up cup-side-down (in the bottom drawer if needed for height) in the dishwasher and using Jet Dry ( the Jet Dry is probably most important.) When I wash my wine glasses laying down, it leaves a dry water film inside. I've never tried all the methods that you have, but this always works for me.
After they come out of the dishwasher, let them dry. Then take a teapot and fill it with steaming hot water. Put the wine glass over the steam and wipe them off with non-cotton cloth.
I've never experienced this problem, but I wash my wine glasses by hand with hot water (but bearable to the touch), a dishrag, and Dawn. Rinse really well and dry on a kitchen towel, upside down.
Try vinegar and warm to hot water, works great for getting rid of hard water stains and grease (even lipstick)!
Try to wash them in hot water it will make the difference add soap and wash them, you will have no stains at all
Lemon
i would n't use too hot of water i have had breaking experiences from this
rinse with really hot water then wipe straight away till shiny
Fart in them, and then smell your own fart.

How to get the white film out of glass that is washed in dishwasher?
Try using baking soda on a slightly damp cloth to remove the hard water marks from glass without scratching it.
Your water needs softening. You should have a water softener installed. They can be purchased or rented.
If you already have a water softener it may need salt or your salt may have bridged and needs breaking up. Then again it may not be cycling enough. How to get the white film out of glass that is washed in dishwasher?
Use Calgon or another water softener in your dishwasher. How to get the white film out of glass that is washed in dishwasher?
I agree with most of the answers but it could be your water. Try the jet dry. If you have hard water. If you have a water softener then it might be the problem.. It either needs filled with salt or you need a new one. Also sometimes the dishwasher soap will build up inside the dishwasher. Try running vinegar through an empty dishwasher and that will help clean up your dishwasher.
You can wipe them down with a clean cloth and white vinegar.
It works on shower doors so it will certainly work on glasses.
Use a rinsing agent like Jet Dry.
However, sometimes it's not a film, but rather the glass is being etched. Try using liquid rather than powdered soap.
Use Jet Dry
Definitely start by using a liquid detergent. Then use jet dry. But if you have to much jet dry in your dishwasher, that white film comes also.
My plumber told me never to use powder in anything including laundry. Its bad for the pipes anyway.
You don't. It's called etching, and it is impossible to
remove. Toss the glass, and buy a new one.
Plain white vinegar. This is the best way to clean all the glass in your house your mirrors your windows your dishes. just mix it with a little water and it works so much better than anything you can by in the store like windex or dishsoap. and it is echo friendly.....
You won't....it's actually etched because of the amount of minerals in your water. A water softener might help but the glass that is etched is permanent.
pure white vinager.
If you have a water softener then it could be that your glasses are etched due to using too much detergent. All you need to use with a softener is about one tablespoon of detergent. No softener? Then it must be either hard water or gel soap buildup. Hard water... stay away from gel soap, if you disagree with this statement, use your finger and rub it at the bottom of the door, under the edge... feel that goop thats gel soap building up. If you have hard water use a simple product called Lemishine mix it 50/50 with your powdered detergent and use it in every load. The glasses will be clear. It will also clean up the inside. For an occasional clean, fill a cup with white vinegar and set it on the top shelf, run a cycle. This will give a strong clean, it is not recommended to do this more than a couple times a month.

At what point do you realize that you don't have to wash out your beer glass because it s already sterilized?
by alcohol? At what point do you realize that you don't have to wash out your beer glass because it s already sterilized?
Who uses a glass? They come in bottles or cans for a reason.... Oh, wait, you don't buy those humongous big @zz bottles, do you? Like Jolly Green Giant sized?
Oh, darn, the Spell Checker annoying pop up messages are back. I guess their little coffee break is over.At what point do you realize that you don't have to wash out your beer glass because it s already sterilized?
I don't drink beer, but I think that whenever I drink my vodka.
True story, my mother used to say that was why I never got sick. (Sterilized daily)
Beer that's a good idea.
HAHAHAHA! LAWLZ! lol cool huh?student loan

Which one is better, using a glass cup and washing it or using a plastic cup and recycling it?
In my house we would like to think we are pretty eco friendly. We recycle the most on our block and and use flourescent light bulbs among other things. We also use both glass and plastic cups (which we recycle). Now I know the slogan recycle reduce reuse and we recycle the plastic and reuse the glass but which one is better. I know that with the glass we are using water and with the plastic we use so many so me and my aunt have been pondering this question for awhile. Is it better to use recyclable cups or reusable cups?Which one is better, using a glass cup and washing it or using a plastic cup and recycling it?
Recycling plastic takes a lot of energy. It's not even close to the energy it takes to clean even a gallon of water.
Washing the glass uses MUCH MUCH less resources than recycling plastic.
(Also, it's actually cheaper to make new plastic than recycle plastic.)Which one is better, using a glass cup and washing it or using a plastic cup and recycling it?
That's a great question, I wish more people cared! Truthfully, bending over the sink and drinking the water is the most eco friendly... BUT... since most of us are civilized, here are my thoughts...
Paper cups- can be composted, burned, recycled, ect.... but they come from trees... not so good... however you can get cups that are made from recycled material.
Glass- uses water to clean and reuse, pretty low impact, but not always the most convenient.
Plastic- If possible, avoid it... now if it comes down to Styrofoam then use plastic for sure, but it the energy and $ used to recycle plastic makes it a catch 22.
Good luck... sounds like a cool science project for a student!!!
Most so called environmental life cycle assessments say the reusable cup is more ecogroovy. Ultimately, you have to judge for yourself. If you break down all energy inputs like making the glass to begin with then you are only looking at one environmental factor, energy. The reality is that the env. impacts and their significance are in the eyes of the beholder. For example, I would think that an air impact such as collecting the cup and recycling it would be worse if it occurred in CA rather than in Hawaii.
Any activities that result in loss of habitat, they are the most environmentally destructive IMHO.
I always use a glass, but wait until I have a good pile of washing up before I fill my bowl with water.
More of a general thought rather than specifically answering the glass vs. plastic question, but I just want to clarify what a lot of people are saying already: reduce, reuse, recycle are NOT equal sides of a triangle! Almost always they should be done in exactly that order--reduce your consumption first, then reuse, and THEN, only if you cannot reduce and reuse, should you recycle. As other people here have already said, recycling takes a huge amount of energy, water, etc. We will save a lot more resources by reducing our consumption than we will by recycling an equal amount. (And of course, recycling is MUCH better than just tossing it into a landfill!) Just my 2 cents!
using a glass cup and washing it
There is one other option- paper cups. This would be particularly advantageous if the cups were made from post consumer waste and then recycled again.
Glass or paper is the concensus, but don't use hot water from the hot water tap for coffee as it can contain traces of copper, zinc, etc. Start with cold, preferably filtered.
It is best to use a good quality plastic cup, wash it and reuse. Reason is glass is much denser (heavier) than plastics. Glass requires more energy to process and is also more expensive and fragile to transport and to recycle compared to plastics.
Use the glass, wash it, then throw the grey-water on your outside plants. Not only does it not waste, but in this drought stricken area it would be greatly appreciated by any outside plant!
Tough question, no one answer. Because water in different areas has different energy and conservation requirements. And it depends on how much water- so play on the conservative side- and whether you use a dishwasher (only when full) And detergent- try low impact detergents (seventh generation) rather than ones with lots of chemicals flushing into the ocean or water-table.
One thing to remember, though- plastic is forever. It's a petroleum product. Most plastics don't bio-degrade, but under heat or pressure, they Do leach out toxins. And there's the carbon footprint of getting them made, packaged, to the shelf, and then, even if they're re-used at home, and then recycled once or twice- more energy, more distribution costs- then into a landfill. Forever and ever.
Sometimes there's just no getting around using plastic or plastic-coated paper- cups- for reasons of access, sanitation, etc.
However, glass is natural, ceramic is natural, they don't leach out toxins (unless there's an inorganic pigment in them in some high concentration and even then, it's usually sealed pretty well into the glass). And they can be used til they break, and re-cycled inefinitely, and they don't leach toxins into a landfill. It only takes one run to get a glass or ceramic cup to you. After that, it's just ' don't use highly chemically detergents, and use prudence in cleaining them. I prefer sinks to dishwashers- becasue sinks have no motor, no additional electricity besides whatever energy warms the water, and I don't heat sink-water to 140 degrees, so it seems less efficient for large loads but very efficient for rinsing a single glass a few times a day.
Whereas even a re-used and re-cycled plastic cup is a short term commitment to use, but a long-term commitmet to energy use to re-distribute it, and a permanent commitment to it, in your lifetime, as a discarded inorganic thing on earth.
Paper cups share similar costs in terms of very limited 're-use' and requiring heavy re-processing and re-distribution. But at least one's great great grandchildren don't marry it, the way buying a plastic cup is marrying them to it forever.
Maybe someone has the down-low on paper-versus-plastic in cups. But I'm thinking - with ordninary use and prudence with water and detergents- in descending order of eco-friendlyness, it goes ';glasses or ceramic mugs first, then paper cups, then plastic cups. It's not just the cup, its getting the cup to you. Using a glass or ceramic cup for five or ten or 20 years, versus re-using a plastic cup five times, before putting it into the re-processing, re packaging re-advertising and re-distribution cycles and then marrying it and it's heat and pressure byproducts to a landfill forever- seems like, well from that perspective, the math's not as complicated, even in a 'desert versus urban mountain runoff reservoir' and 'plain warm water versus dishwasher and commercial detergent' scenario. It goes through the production, packaging, advertising and distro cycle once or twice in 20 years. That's pretty efficient. And, to re-use a plastic cup five times before it breaks? You still have to wash it, so it's the same question as not-re-using the cup, if washing is the only energy consuming distinction.
