I was washing the dishes and suddenly a cup of glass explode in my hand what was that?

it was already rinsed I was about to put it away withe the other clean dishes, it was wierd!I was washing the dishes and suddenly a cup of glass explode in my hand what was that?
lay off the steroidsI was washing the dishes and suddenly a cup of glass explode in my hand what was that?
A sudden change in the temperature of glass will cause it to expand and/or contract and break. i.e hot wash water/cool rinse water
That happened to me once too, I have a scar on my right index finger because it broke as I was washing a glass and bled everywhere. You can see the scar where it cut my finger up. This was about 12 years ago. Maybe try using more slightly hotter than warm water to wash, instead of straight hot hot water, then your glass won't break. It is hot and cold mix. A couple of plates of mine broke too. weird. eh?
A quick change in temperature will sometimes do that. I would rather believe that you have special powers. Maybe you should look into it, focus your energy.
It was probably a temperature change, as others have pointed out. Thicker glasses (and ceramic) are more prone to breaking from heat shock than thinner glasses, since thicker glass is unable to equalize its temperature as quickly as thin glass. I'm guessing the glass that broke was a tumbler or coffee mug, rather than something like a wine glass.
Hi. The glass may have had a small crack or stress defect. Glad you were not hurt!
I think the temperature change idea or the small crack or weak spot idea. That happened to me too and I took a big chunk out of my pinky, ER couldn't do anything about it becase of the cut. Just be careful. Plastic!
maybe it's because you use hot water and when you put it down it got cold and it exploded

even the other way around

it happen to me when i was cleaning a cold cup and when i was finished with it (i wash with hot water) it exploded.

or you could just have a ghost in your house
sometimes when you put cold water on hot glass or vice versa the glass will break.
were you singing opera at the time?

did you hit a really high note?

no???

then it could be that it had a hairline crack that you could not see but the way you held it caused it to break
Did you rinse in cold water? A sudden change in temperature can cause rapid expansion or contraction in glass, making it less stable. The bonds holding those molecules together can break, causing the glass to shatter. Use warmer water to rinse next time.
A while back, I moved into my new apartment, and heat wasn't on yet, and it was VERY cold. I was washing a glass mug of mine under some warm water and the thing just exploded...it was so sudden. Anyways, I figured out that it was the temperature difference between the air and the water. Next time, cooler water wash and warm rinse...makes sparklier dishes anyways!
it's a sign from DEATH himself... be careful what you do and who you do it to, huh? just be careful!!! ;~}
That is so weird but a similar thing happened to me. I was cleaning a glass shelf from my refrigerator and it crumbled into a thousand pieces in my sink. Your glass cup may have been cracked and like tectonic plates and earthquakes it built up pressure on the crack or fault line, the pressure was released when your glass exploded.
It's because you probably rinsed the glass with cold water when it was still hot from being washed. That makes glass crack and since you were probably gripping the glass it made it bust in your hand. Hope your hand is okay btw!
it couldve been some of sort of chemical thing, or u could possesed by some sort of glassbreaking aliens trying to turn u into some glass breaking maniac- RUN 4 UR LIFE, DUDE!!!!!
I had that happen to me before but I was actaully still washing the glass and it exploded in my hand and i had to go get stitches .
It was either a temperature variation within the glass; Or you have a ghost.
Sounds like fast temperature change. Did you rinse it in very cold water?
