it differs from engine to engine on both mk4 and mk5 golfs,some are 3litres some are 4 litres and some are 5litres but no more or less than that.

It depends on the engine .I have a 2006 golf base model and the windshield washer tank holds 3L but check the owners manual.
get your self a gallon of wind shield wash. make shure the wash tank is about empty. NOW, fill the wind shield wash tank, to the top. Take notice how much has been used fron the gallon of fluid, and mark it down in the owners manual for future reference.
